Why did we dine here? – Noosh is highly anticipated Eastern Mediterranenan restaurant in San Francisco.
‘Noosh-e jaan’ is the phrase that means cheers / salud in Farsi. It can also mean the joy you derive from good company and good food. Eastern Mediterranean inspired and California made is their motto.

Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz (Saison, Mourad, Eleven Madison Park, and Blue Hill at Stone Barns) have massive experience at some of the best restaurants in the US. They have turned their popup Istanbul Modern into a full blown restaurant focus on elevated cuisine at a casual restaurant.

No reservations, so you have to wait in line. We waited 45 minutes on a Friday night. The place was filled with the 20’s to 30’s set.

Insider Tip – Go for lunch to avoid the lines. Cashless.

Cuisine – Eastern Mediterranenan
Location – Lower Pacific Heights
Opened – March 2019

Service – Noosh was better than expected. The place was packed, so were pauses before ordering and the like. The waiter helped us navigate the menu. Food came rapidly after we ordered.

Verdict – Noosh was a good experience. It was worth the wait and brings something new to the SF dining scene. Great place for groups to share lots of dishes. We would not lump it at the top of the Mediterranenan chain but above the usual local spots, our experience at Zahav in Philadelphia defines that.

Noosh Food Picks:
Mojito ($12) was strong and well made.

Garden Mojito ($5) virgin – was a bit sweet.

Cherry Leaf Sour ($5) was nicely done.

FALAFEL ($7) with Lemon Tahini Sauce is a must order. Hot out of the fryer, nice dipping sauce.

Noosh San Francisco Soujuk

PORK SOUJUK ($16) Egg, Roasted Garlic is a Turkish Flatbread and also worth ordering. Not a lot of pork, but some really nicely done bread.

Noosh San Francisco Hummus

Hummus (3 for $17, 1 for $6) with Red Ajika was very smooth, better than most places. Nice hot freshly make pocket pita. Gluten free folks can order some vegie sticks.

Red pepper Muhammara with Urfa Almonds was a bit sweet but worthwhile.

Kale – Tahini Phkali with candied Onions was the weakest of the 3 spreads.

NOOSH’S PICK ($19) – 5 Assorted Skewers – Trumpet Mushroom, Chicken, Pork, Beef Kebab, Lamb Shoulder – is a nice assortment to try all the different items. We like the Mushroom, Lamb, Chicken the best.
