El Arrayan has been named Best Mexican In Vallarta for 3 years in a row by Frommer’s and is a Fodor’s Pick. It is located in the heart of the city a couple blocks from the main drag. English translations of the menu are available.
We stopped by for a quick snack. The paintings on the walls look great.
Decor, Vibe – Colorful Mexican art and architecture. Lots of tourists and some locals were dining.
The bathroom even looks unique.

Picks:
Horchata
Chapulines Tostados (Cricket Tacos) ($110 pesos, 10:1 US$) – Yeah this is a gimmicky pick, but we had to try them. Don’t open them and take a bite. Real crunchy and it doesn’t taste like chicken.
Taquitos ($65) – 5 Crunchy small tacos with cheese and cream on top. Wish there were more. The 3 dipping sauces were great.
Mexican Coffee ($55) – Almost like a cocktail, sugar rimmed glass with sweet coffee and liquor. Very tasty stuff. Kept us up for hours.

The desert menu is very limited. This restaurant serves good Mexican food, in an colorful atmosphere. With so many restaurants here serving international fare, it is good to find a place with good local Mexican cuisine.

March 7, 2009 at 12:03 pmWe had a group of 9 that ate there on 3-3-09. Recommended and confirmed by locals, we left at last minute without reservations. The expected wait of 50 minutes was well worth it. The food was great without a single complaint from our table. If you want authentic, this is your place.
