Best pizza in the world?
Why did we dine here? – Da Michele is a legendary pizza place in Naples, Italy, established way back in 1870. We were here to explore the origins of Neapolitan pizza and had to give this legendary place a visit. Being major fans of pizza, dining at an authentic Restaurant like Da Michele was a pilgrimage. The recent book Eat, Pray, Love mention this place.
Instead of waiting in line for a table, we decided to go inside and order a pizza to go. This is considerably faster.
Insider Tip – Go early to avoid the lines. Take the Rick Steves Naples walk, it ends near Da Michele
Cuisine – Napoli
Location – Naples, Italy
Opened – 1870
Service – Da Michele had reasonable service. The pizzas come out fast and they are used to serving a ton of people.
Verdict – Da Michele serves up a stellar authentic experience that every pizza fanatic needs to try. We preferred the Margherita from Pizzeria Starita in Naples, but either is far superior to what we have in the San Francisco Bay Area. The closest pizza to this version would be Una Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco. Cash only.
Be sure to get Gelato from the historic Gelataria across the street and down the block – Polo Nord – Via Pietro Colletta 41/43
Da Michele Signature Dishes – Pizza
Da Michele’s Menu is very simplistic and inexpensive
Da Michele Food Picks:
Margherita Pizza (€4) – A beautiful pie with a slightly aged tomato sauce, soft and chewy charred crust. Very good cheese and pizza flavors. They use 00 Flour and San Marzano Tomatoes. Cheap and wonderful!
