Why did we dine here? – Gotham Bar & Grill has been around since 1984 and is considered an institution of fine dining. One Michelin Star, 4.5 stars on Yelp. We decided to see if it lives up to the hype. The older set in the 40’s to 60’s were dining.
Cuisine – American
Location – NYC West Village
Verdict – Gotham Bar & Grill lives up to its billing. The food is excellent as was the service. Timeless American Cuisine done right.
Beware: We did get seated in no-mans land, so there is definitely some stuffiness here.
Gotham Bar & Grill Food Picks:
Mojito ($18) was a tad under sugared but ok.
Tuna Tartare ($29) cucumber, shiso, miso is a signature dish and must get.
White Asparagus Salad ($26) farm egg, spring onion, pancetta, arugula pesto, parmigiano reggiano had several large thick fresh stalks. A spring addition to the menu.
Seared Foie Gras ($37) roasted fig, port wine reduction was fab. This has gotten banned in California AGAIN, so we could not wait for this dish. Smoooooth.
Miso Black Cod ($49) bok choy, shiitake, sticky rice, soy ginger lemongrass is a signature dish and also a MUST get. It is really done well.
Maine Lobster ($56) snow peas, black rice noodle, lemongrass, kaffir lime was better than any lobster we had a couple days ago in Boston. Appears to be butter poached.
Long Island Duck Breast ($49) quinoa, currants, pistachio, Tokyo turnips, mango chutney was also fantastic. Done to our requested medium rare.
OK: (Order if you like this dish)
Baby Kale ($19) quinoa, mango, marcona almonds, pecorino was a bit of a mess.
Tagliatelle ($28) wild mushroom, shaved goat cheese, pine nuts. Order this at an Italian place.
Pans: (We would not reorder these dishes)
None
