Reviewer: Foodnut.com Guilin China food Festival Zhengyang Pedestrian Street Guilin, China |
Guilin is famous for its unique scenery featuring beautiful limestone rock formations and the Li river delta. This area is a mecca for Chinese tourists and needs to be on more Western travel destinations.
We just happened to have the right timing and encountered this food Festival occurring in the middle of the Zhengyang Pedestrian Street. (正阳步行街) This festival occurs on the 3rd day of the 3rd month on the lunar calendar. 3rd of March is a traditional holiday for Zhuang minority people celebrated with singing and food. Zhuang people are in GuangXi province, which is the province Guilin is in. So, the street food festival is based on this tradition.
There is a KFC market in this mall, for those sick of Chinese food.
There were many vendors trying to sell skewers of meat and seafood. Some resorted to ridiculous musical routines. We tried one and found the lamb of low quality and the spices, extremely
hot.
We weren’t as adventurous as normal, for two of us had gotten sick through street food, the day before.
Any other time of the year, you might try the Night Market located at Zhong Shan Zhong Lu between NiKo-NiKo-Do Plaza and Dream Island Department Store.
