Why did we dine here? – Sultana is a long established Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Menlo Park. This is a nicer place with a outdoor patio in the back, perfect during the Pandemic. This spot is definitely a step above all the casual Mediterranean restaurants you find around. (We like Hummus Mediterranean in San Mateo) A friend recommended it, so we decided to give it a go.
Insider Tip – Dine out in the Patio. Available via delivery service
Cuisine – Mediterranean
Location – Menlo Park, CA
Opened – 2006
Service – Sultana had friendly accessible service.
Verdict – We were pleasantly surprised by Sultana, if you like Mediterranean cuisine like us, definitely go.
Is this restaurant worth a 5 minute drive? Yes. 30 minute? Maybe. 1 Hour? No
Sultana Signature Dishes – Moussaka, Kebab, Baklava
Sultana’s Menu is fairly concise with everything you expect at this class of restaurant. Looks like they made a mean baklava.
Sultana Food Picks:
Hummus ($10) Garbanzo beans with garlic, lemon juice, tahini sauce and pita is a bit lumpier than most. Includes average pita. 7.5/10
Pomegranate Salad ($14) Arugula, goat cheese, almond, pom seeds, orange is on the sweet side, but a well rounded salad. 8/10
Pomegranate Kebab ($20) Ground lamb and beef stuffed w/ spinach topped over garlic yogurt pomegranate sauce & seeds served w/ rice. The meat was plated totally differently than all the other Mediterranean places around here. Curled into a circular shape with pomegranates. The quality was very good, it was interspersed with some spinach. The yogurt on the plate was better than most as was the bread that they served. 8.5/10
Moussaka ($18) Layers of eggplant & potatoes w/ ground lamb & beef topped in béchamel sauce served w/rice was highly recommended by a friend, and it looks great. 8.5/10
Kofte ($22) Grilled, seasoned ground lamb and beef served with rice and salad had 5 good sized patties along with cooked veggies and rice. Good, tender meat with solid flavor. 8.5/10
Garden Vegan Bowl ($18) Vegan and GF vegetable dish with Quinoa, hummus, roasted cauliflower, sautéed spinach, and grilled avocado sounds boring in its description, but looked for better in reality. Tasted even better. Quality hummus, lots of quinoa, makes this a must get for vegans. Not on their online order! 9.5/10
