We recently visited the greater Vancouver area. This week we feature reviews from our neighbor to the north.
Japadog is a legendary hot dog cart located in downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada. It was featured on the Olympics, Anthony Bourdain, etc. We just had to hit such a Touristy cult spot.
Decor, Vibe – Japadog is just a glorified hot dog cart pictures all over it, and lines of fellow crazy people. Tourists and lots of locals were in line. Apparently the lines for even longer during weekday lunch hours.
Menu (Click to zoom into any picture)
Japadog Menu has several types of Japanese style hot dogs with various toppings and meats. Menu gets updated from time to time.
Picks:
Okonomi ($6.25) with Kurobuta pork hot dog, Bonito flakes, fried cabbage, Japanese mayo, and special Okonomiyaki sauce was a good sized hotdog smothered with ingredients. The mayo has little flavor has dipped and fried cabbage. They just help balance out the meatiness. Excellent bun.
Kurobuta Terimayo ($6.75) with the same hotdog, fried onions, nori seaweed flakes, and teriyaki sauce was also a very good hotdog. A sauce made it messy and slightly overwhelmed the hotdog. Very nice casing to the hotdog, one that added some snap.
OK:
None
Pans:

Japadog had a 15 minute wait to order, and another wait in the pickup line. Prices are reasonable making this a no-brainer to any crazy food be visiting Vancouver. The Japanese hot dogs are decent and worth a short trek. Check their website for other locations and hours.
This place reminds me of cult classic Rosamude Sausage Grill San Francisco.
