Rosamunde Sausage Grill is a small Sausage restaurant in the colorful lower Haight district of San Francisco with an additional larger location in the Mission district. This Place has a cult like following. Sort of like Vancouver’s Japadog. They serve grilled sausages on french rolls. You can select 2 free condiments from sauerkraut, grilled onions, peppers, or spicy beef chili. They also sell uncooked sausages, which we took advantage of one time.
Decor, Vibe – Small hole in the wall with some counter seating, a display case of sausages and a big grill in back. Loud punk music. Most customers were local regulars that ordered and then waited in the bar next door.

On our last visit in 2011 we notice that prices have risen to $6 – $6.50 for the grilled sausages. Your choice of two condiments for free, sauerkraut, grilled onions, sweet or hot peppers, beef chili. Additional toppings $.50.
Picks:
Wild Boar sausage ($5.50) with apple & spice is very popular here. One big sausage that is a bit salty but still very good. A nice fresh french roll slightly shorter in length than the sausage. The grilled onions were hot and a little sharp. On our visit in 2011, this was changed to two small sausages.
We tried the chili and found it slightly spicy, very beefy, and pretty good.
Lamb sausage ($5.50) with fennel, sun dried tomatoes had 2 small sausages on the french roll. Initially a little gamey, the lamb gaminess went away and the sausage sold even non lamb fans.
OK:
Chicken sausage ($5.25) smoked with cherries was decent but not as good as the others. Could not tell it was chicken!
Andouillle sausage ($6) was a single large sausage with heavy Sage and oregano flavors and a mild amount of heat. The issue we had with this sausage was the strong aftertaste.
Pans:
None
Rosamunde Sausage Grill had only 1 person working, so wait times can be long. If you are into sausages, look no further, there is some good and cheap stuff here. We recently had an excellent sausage at Delfina. Tuesday’s is their special hamburger day. The wait for burgers is long, and they sell out fast. Cash Only.
Across the street is a popular BBQ restaurant Memphis Minnies.

July 20, 2009 at 5:48 pmI love their duck sausage with the kraut and grilled onions. I take the 22 Fillmore to the BART station from Pac Heights to get home and I have to argue with myself if i should hop off at Haight or not. If i gave into the temptation each time i passed by, i would have had a heart attack by now. =)
