This buffet got downsized after the Pandemic to a Weekend Breakfast Buffet at Aveo during the summer. June-August, Saturday-Sunday.
Best Sunday Brunch Buffet in California!
AVEO Table + Bar is a restaurant inside the beautiful Monarch Beach Resort at Dana Point, in Southern California’s Orange County. The restaurant was full of well dressed OC folks along with some cool guys wearing shorts. They serve a top notch Sunday Brunch Buffet, and Mediterranean focused normal a la carte during the rest of the week.

We are crazy buffet fans, always seeking out the best high end buffets, so we carefully researched the various venues in this area including the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton before settling on this restaurant.
Sunday Brunch is expensive at $78, you can add $10 to get unlimited sparkling wine, $20 to get unlimited bloody mary’s, or $40 for unlimited Perrier Jouet Gran Brut Champagne. Kids under 5 are free. Free validated valet parking.
A jackpot was hit, this Sunday Brunch is one of the best we have been to in the United States.
Cooked breakfast items include made to order omelettes, pancakes, and waffles. The rest of the pre-cooked breakfast was some of the weakest parts. Average chicken apple sausage, applewood smoked bacon, scrambled egg, Eggs Benedict Florentine, Oatmeal, Red Bliss Potato and Chorizo hash, etc. Limited bread, bagels and toast selection with smoked salmon and tomatoes. A couple cereals and yogurt. No surprise few were wasting time on this, when many better options where there.
Kids get mini PB&J sandwiches, Mac and Cheese, and vegetable crudite. Check our review on Conrad in Hong Kong on how a kid’s spread should look. Frankly the kids went straight to dessert.
A small assortment of salads, cheese, deli meats fruits was offered.
The shellfish was well stocked. Awesome pre-cracked crab claws, West Coast oysters, seared ahi, and large shrimp.
Japanese station included lots of Sashimi and sushi options. You can ask for custom made handroll sushi, Uni Sushi, as well as tempura prawns.
Roasts included requisite high quality carved Prime Rib and a huge Red Snapper. They kick it up a notch during the holidays with a whole pig and turkey.
Pre-made pasta, wild mushroom risotto, and lobster scallop risotto plus made to order pasta and risotto stations to customize it.
No pizza, just 4 different types of flatbread including a nice fig cheese one.
Cooked Hot items: Braised Chicken Breast Cacciatore, Medley of Baby Vegetables with Blistered Shishito Peppers, Roasted tricolor new potatoes, seafood paella, really good butternut squash soup.
Dessert area was VERY decadent. Several kids were in shock and couldn’t figure out what to start with. Chocolate fountain with really thick quality chocolate – marshmallows, strawberries, and much more.
Warm berry crisp, snickerdoodle and oatmeal raisin cookies, 4 kinds of chocolate oreos, muffins, mouse pops, Trix rice crispy treats, berries and cream, pate de fruit, Fancy Strawberry panna cotta, super good chocolate dipped strawberries, oreos, chocolate pudding, reese’s verrine, macaroons, macaron pops, cake pops, smores bar, gold flake encrusted chocolate cones, Chouquettes in carmel sauce, chocolate chantilly cones, and much more.
Wow! Gluten free items were clearly marked.
An Ice cream station is added during the holidays.
Non alcoholic drinks including soft drinks are included as well as 4 different juices include a green ‘healthy’ elixir.
Missing: Dim sum, more ethnic options, foie gras, souffles.
Service: Was just exceptional. We have never had a buffet with such good service. People cruised by all the time, taking plates, asking if we wanted refills, etc. They even ask if you want a drink to go. Wow.
Conclusion – The AVEO Sunday Brunch is not to be missed. Food Quality and service is high. It is the best Sunday Brunch we have been to in the US.
