The quest for the ultimate buffet continues. Foie gras check, Iberico ham, check.
We recently visited Hong Kong and dined on excellent Cantonese Chinese food and more. Hong Kong is a modern city like New York, that is progressive, packed with energy, and filled with top-notch restaurants. Hong Kong’s over-the-top buffets are one area most folks overlook.
Tiffin Buffet Grand Hyatt Hong Kong was next on our list of high-end buffets. This high-end hotel is located near the HKCEC (Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre), making it is popular with businessmen. This restaurant is a long walk from the MTR station. We are suckers for lavish spreads of high-end food in addition to our mainstays of regular fine dining! We have found that Hong Kong is filled with buffets that simply out to do Las Vegas. In 2010, we dined at nearby Conrad Hotel’s Sunday brunch, which proved to be Awesome.
This dinner buffet here costs approximately US$70. You can save by coming just for the dessert buffet at HK$250. Sunday Brunch adds cooked lobster and unlimited Rose Champagne.

Decor, Vibe – Tiffin Buffet Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is situated on the open atrium, mezzanine level and a spacious locale with a pianist playing live music. This area also serves as their bar lounge, resulting in many sofa like chairs, not particularly amenable for dining, but good for relaxing when you achieve a food coma.
European delicacies including appetizers, salad bar, seafood on ice, carving stations, hot dishes, cheese table, signature desserts.
They also serve a Lunch Buffet, dessert buffet, and Afteroon Tea Buffet.
Coffee, tea, soft drinks, juice with HK$85 beverage package. HK$175 for a package that includes beer and wine. At these prices, more should be included.
A reasonable selection of high-quality salads including Caesars, mozzarella cheese salad, seafood salad, duck salad, potato salad, cooked vegetables, and more. Mushroom soup.
Several high-quality shellfish options including crab, mussels, clams, lobster, and shrimp.
No sashimi or caviar. Smoked salmon.
Salumi included ridiculously good 24-month-old Iberico ham. 4 kinds of quality cheese and several flat breads.
Seared Foie Gras a bit burnt, cooked to order. We have some serious Foie eaters in Hong Kong. 3 types of foie terrines.
Roast chicken, pan fried salmon, Lamb, sole, Seabass, pasta with truffle sauce, cooked mussels, lobster truffle tart, braised pork neck, Carmelized pumpkin, mashed potato, green beans, and more
Carved veal shank, no prime rib.
Extensive Indian food selection with 6 dishes from curries to Rice dishes.
Large Thai food area with 6 items from prawns to mackerel.
No Chinese food.
Extensive selection including cakes, tarts, steamed sticky rice with mango, crème brûlée, brownies, bread pudding, chocolates, truffles, meringues, macaroons, marshmallows, Indian Gulab, Chinese dessert soups, sweet bean curd, tiramisu, crisps, chocolate mousse, pomelo sago, fresh fruit, candy, Panna cotta, black forest cake, and much more.
3 types of premium ice cream, complete with toppings and cones.
Service – Grand Hyatt Tiffin Buffet had reasonable service, but not enough servers to cover the vast territory. We had to hail our server several times.
Value – This is a fairly expensive buffet, but they did feature a wide variety of high-quality food especially desserts and cooked food. Deductions for lack of some high end items.
Verdict – Tiffin Buffet Grand Hyatt Hong Kong proved to be a solid choice with a wide variety of food especially desserts. Beverages were disappointingly pricey. While they lacked some of the extraordinary items (shellfish options, caviar, high quality pasta) present elsewhere, the breadth of cuisine’s and the fact that it is available daily, not just on Sunday mornings, makes it attractive to a wide audience. You can also come for dessert only. For a Sunday Brunch, we would hit Conrad or JW Marriott Lounge instead.
