Where to buy a SIM card or eSIM at the Casablanca CMN airport.

Right Outside of International arrivals, there are several booths to the right side selling SIM Cards and eSIMS. Inwi, Orange, and Maroc Telecom.

• Orange – 200 DH for 14 days of Unlimited Internet, 300 DH for 30 days of Unlimited Internet
• Maroc Telecom – 200 DH for 30 GB of Internet valid for 1 month

Closest ATM in CMN Airport is the Banque Populaire ATM to the right of arrivals.

Morocco Tourist Notes

• Morocco is a great place to visit. New sites and sounds are around each corner
• We took an OAT Travel 14 day tour and found it great. You go to all the sites plus you get to interact with locals to really understand the country – Save $100 on OAT Tours when you mention Customer Number 3317221 Ellen Fong
• Fes was a favorite place to visit. They have the largest Medina. No motor bikes scaring tourists unlike Marakesh.
• The best tagine we had was in a small guest house in the Imlil area and at a tent in the middle of the Sahara Desert
• Be sure to try a local hamman or bath, not a luxurious hotel’s.
• No Uber or Lyft
• No Yelp. It was hard to read between the lines of Google reviews. Some Tripadvisor reviews were totally different than Google. Ignore places in tourist zones, run away from barkers, etc

We followed a tour with many set meals, but had several chances to eat on our own.  Most of the spots the tour went to were very average at best.

Dinarjat was located near our Riad, so we went there for lunch. 3.9 on Tripadvisor. The dining room is beautiful and the Menu is wide ranging with Tagine, Kebab and more. Prices were not cheap.

Menu has English translation. The food was decent but pricey, hence tourists were mainly present.

Service was solid with basic English understanding.

Food Review:
Harira Fassia (130 MAD) or Traditional vegetable soup was a large tureen full of flavorful soup. Tomato, lentils, chickpeas and fresh coriander. Enough for 4 people. 9/10

Kabab bel ghanmi (250) marinated lamb skewers, served with saffron rice, toasted almonds and golden raisins. Had 2 large skewers with tender meat seasoned well. Lots of rice and steamed vegetables. 8.5/10

RIAD KALAA

We were staying at this Riad, so a dinner was included in the stay.

Menu is pretty standard for this area. You pick starter, main course, and a dessert

The food was not as good as our lunch spot, Dinarjat

Service was okay. We had a large party and the 2 people were overwhelmed.

Food Review:
Combo meal (280Dhs)

Market vegetable soup was okay. Not as flavorful as the lunch spot. 7.5/10

Selection of seasonal moroccan salads had 4 nice ones. 8.5/10

Lamb Tagine was on the dry side plus no sauce like the chicken version. Good flavor profile. Nice selection of almonds, prunes, apricots. 8/10

Vegetarian Tagine was also not as good as the lunch spot. Lots of veggies. At least it came bubbling hot. 8.5/10

Le Capri is a restaurant that our tour group took us to. Several other groups from other operators go here too. 3.9 on Trip advisor.

Menu is wide ranging from pizza to tagine and more. Not a good sign for specialization.

The food was about what we expected. Passable for lunch. Prices are cheap

Service took a while because the place was full.

Food Review:
Magherita pizza (70) was cheap a big. Looks like a plain old pizza, not a Neapolitan style pie. Edible but not stellar. 8/10

Salad Nicoise (20) was pretty plain looking but large in size. Sad looking mayo and chunks of tuna. 7/10

L’Amandier, Fes | parmi les meilleurs restaurants du Maroc

Restaurant L’Amandier was not far from our hotel and had good ratings on Tripadvisor. They have a great view on the roof top garden terrace, clearly this is one nice hotel and spa. You can book online.

A word of warning, it is very hard to navigate the narrow nearby medina corridors especially at night, so take a taxi instead. Google maps will not help you navigate the maze.

Menu is pretty extensive with tagine as well as more continental offerings. We’d wanted a change from the same items on our tour, so this was perfect.

The food was very good and still about half the price of San Francisco restaurants.  This was one of the best meals in Morocco.

Service was very good. They understood English and dietary restrictions. Finally a spot with decent service!

Food Review:
Bread is pretty average, gluten free bread is nice touch.

Foie Grad de canard fernier (190 MAD) isn’t on our menu’s back in California. Very large slice of terrine that is smooth and velvety. 9.5/10

Epaule d’agneau confite (225) was very tender and comes with a nice gravy. Lots of veggies surround the tender meat. 9/10

Tajine Terre & Nature Berbere (150) came with rice instead of the couscous. Nice dish for Vegetarians. The chutney that accompanied it was great. 9/10

Molay Driss

Molay Driss is a hard to find restaurant in Fes’s Medina. Tour groups go there and we followed ours there. Food was better than expected. Men’s bathroom was way up stairs.

Menu is typical for Morocco with tagine, skewers, etc.

The food was very good. Better than most of the other tourist spots.

Service was pretty much drop and go.

Food Review:
Bread was average.

Moroccan salad with eggplant, rice, beets were pretty typical. 7.5/10

Cooked lentils is a vegetarian dish that works well for vegans and gluten free folks. Good flavor. 8.5/10

Beef, lamb skewers had 3 nicely flavored ones. 8.5/10

Berbere Palace

We were staying at the Berbere Palace with our OAT travel group and found the hotel surprisingly really nice and the dinner buffet very good as well. Great selection and very good quality meats and salads. Made to order pasta station.

Breakfast had a large spread with ample variety but quality was not as good especially for Western meats.

Cocktails and liquor are costly.

Service was solid.

ACCUEIL

Pepe Nero is an Italian restaurant in Marrakech that had decent ratings on TripAdvisor and is located about 10 minutes from the busy Place square. You do have to navigate the maze-like Medina to get here. We booked via email. They speak English just fine.

Menu is concise and includes many classic dishes. They also have a short Moroccan menu with usual dishes. Prices are inline with this caliber of restaurant and are less than back home in San Francisco.

Decor was beautiful. Impressive decoration. The food was also very good. Most dishes were spot on. No tourist crap here.

This was our best meal in Morocco.

Service was friendly and knowledgeable. They even walked us back to our hotel.

Food Review:
Some of the Best bread on our trip.

Salade Chef (110 DN) was an elevated simple salad, finally a real one! 8.5/10

Risotto Gambas (190) was an excellent dish cooked al dente. 3 small prawns topping the smooth rice dish. 9.5/10

Taglioline clams (200) was al dente and also an excellent pasta. 9.5/10

Mechoui Agneau (180) or braised lamb is a nice looking dish with lots of tender lamb. Could have used more sauce. 8.5/10

Sorbet Framboise (110) or raspberry sorbet is clearly homemade and a bit tart. 8.5/10

Rooftop Restaurant El Kennaria

Kennaria Rooftop

El Kennaria is an informal restaurant near the main square of Marrakesh. We wanted a quick and low cost dinner near our hotel, so we settled on this place. 4.7 on google with 1600 reviews. Nice roof top views of Marrakesh. You can hear the competition call to prayers.

Rooftop Restaurant El Kennaria’s Menu is pretty Moroccan with all the standard dishes. The waitress warned us that even the burger is Moroccan style with the different patty. Waitress spoke English.

The food was about what we expected. Solid with some pleasant surprises.

Service was good but with long pauses due to not enough servers. She did know her stuff. Starters and entrees came out at the same time, so beware.

Food Review:
Bread is forgettable.

Soupe Traditionnelle (50 DH) was a standard Moroccan soup. Solid. 7.5/10

Assortiment de salads Marocaines (80 DH) has 4 cooked salads that are perfect as a starter or for vegetarians. 8/10

Tanja Marrakchia (165 DH) is a unique this that isn’t present in many areas. Very tender slow cooked beef with preserved lemon, garlic, cumin, and butter or oil, cooked in a distinctive urn-shaped terracotta pot called a Tangia. Perfect with the rice the waitress gave us. 8.5/10

Au Four A Bois is an Italian restaurant near our Radisson hotel in Casablanca. Again, we had almost 2 weeks of daily tagine, so it was time for a change. The spot has a 4.3 rating on google but only 3.8 on Trip Advisor, but we went anyway. Not many people were dining at 7PM, other than fellow tourists. Place was packed around 9pm.

Menu is pretty wide ranging from Pizza to Pasta and many other Italian dishes. Pastas are house made and all have egg. Prices are very reasonable. Waiter spoke English.

The food was better than expected. Not amazing but very good quality and portion size.

Service was good but faded as the place got busy.

Food Review:
Bread was forgettable.

Fruits de mer et palourdes Risotto (145 DH) was a good sized entree with a range of shellfish, several clams on top, and some well done rice. 8.5/10

Linguine aux palourdes (109) was cooked al dente and hit the mark. Ample quantity. 8.5/10

Vegetarian entree (100 DH) was custom made for us and satisfied our need. 9/10
