Horn BBQ, Oakland

Horn BBQ Is a legendary barbecue restaurant in Oakland, California. It has 4 stars on yelp and long lines whenever it’s open. Horn barbecue has been attracting long lines ever since it opened.  A fire closed them down and made them re-open in April 2024 at 464 8th St., Oakland.

The line is due to the slow first station that carves all the meat. (How about 2 stations?) We finally got around to trying the spot in 2021 and returned in 2023. On a Thursday at 11:30 we had to wait about 20 minutes. The line is slow because there’s only one person carving up the meat.

Get there early or else they may run out of items! They ran out of pork ribs on our last visit, but had expensive 2lb beef ribs for $50.

During the Covid 19 Pandemic, we visited them for Outdoor dining in their spacious picnic table area.
We were trying to support local restaurants, so they can survive.

Horn BBQ Definitely serves up quality barbecue. Top-notch barbecue the San Francisco Bay area. Breakwater BBQ in El Granada is a close second. 4505 in San Francisco is also good but a notch below Horn. We recently ate at Midsmoke in Charlotte North Carolina and found their barbecue definitely superior.

We found a free dessert coupon on Yelp, so be sure to look for that.
Note there is no phone number to call.

Food Review:

Horn BBQ Oakland Ribs Brisket Pulled Pork Sandwich

Beef Brisket sandwich ($18) was huge, easily twice the size of most of them out there. Lots of fat blending into the meat, tender and electable. 9/10
Beef Brisket costs $20 by the half pound.

Pulled pork sandwich ($16) was equally as large, also very tender meat. Not as good as the brisket. Pulled pork by the half bound was $15. 8/10

Spare ribs ($18) by the half pound, are weaker than the other two proteins. A bit on the salty side, but fall off the bone and cooked just right. Barbecue sauce is on the sweet side and a bit watery. Sometimes they have beef ribs for sale. 8/10

Horn BBQ Oakland sides

Collard greens ($8 small) and pit beans ($8) are served in HUGE quality. The greens were way too salty. The beans were undercooked. 8.5/10
Mac & Cheese ($8) is very dense and cheesy. 8/10
