Why did we dine here? – Sushi Gen is one of those place we love to write about. Great Food at a reasonable price. Do not take our word for it, look at the ton of 4.5 star ratings on Yelp. There are a ton of high end Japanese places in LA, but few affordable spots serving good food.
Without reservations you will have to wait, the lines are longer at dinner. Turnover is quite fast.
Be sure to checkout our review of Bestia in LA.
Insider Tip – Get here early or have reservations. Lunch is easier to get in.

Sushi Gen Signature Dishes – Sushi, Sashimi
Sushi Gen’s Menu is pretty small. Not a lot of dinner options plus sushi selections.
Sushi Gen Food Picks:
Sushi Combo’s Salad
Sushi Combo ($28) was great. Starts with a green salad and a seaweed one. Better quality fish than most places with higher prices. A nice assortment of the standard fish. It would be great to explore some of their other options.
Sushi A la Carte ($29) with Real Crab roll, Uni, Ebi was great. Again, high quality food at value prices. Not the average quality you encounter at most Japanese restaurants.
Giant Clam ($12) must have been pretty big. It was sliced up with sandwiched lemon wedges in there too. Not very elegant, but pretty fresh and simple.
Clam Miso Soup ($3) hit the mark with a ton of flavor. Much more interesting than plain old miso soup.
Hot Sake ($4) was nice and really hot. Good quality sake for a very low price.
