Why did we dine here? – Da Chun is an old school Sheng jian bao restaurant. We love Yang’s Dumplings (Xiao Yang) and try to eat there everytime we visit Shanghai, but made sure we visit the harbinger of this genre. This restaurant has several locations, yet we chose the Da Shi Jie outpost as it is supposed to be the best.

Da Chun Signature Dishes – Sheng Jian Bao
Da Chun’s Menu has just 5 items. Pork Sheng Jian Bao or Pork Sheng Jian Bao are the 2 you should order.
Da Chun Food Picks:
Pork Sheng Jian Bao (RMB¥6/4 pieces) had four hot, good sized pieces. These are pretty hearty, you can easily chow 4 down. The tops are white, bready, soft, while the bottoms are golden brown and crisp. Actually it could be the bottom or side.. These have not much soup unlike Yangs. Da Chun’s are also thicker skinned.
The meat has a meaty sweet tint to it. There is chili in the vinegar soy sauce dip, so beware. The dip really goes well with these awesome dumplings.
We asked an older couple if they liked Da Chun or Yang’s. They said it was a matter of personal preference, one liked this spot, the other liked Yangs. We ignored the pork shrimp combo version.
