Mingalaba Restaurant is a Burmese and Mandarin Chinese restaurant in downtown Burlingame in the Burlingame avenue shopping district. It has been open since late June 2008. They serve many Burmese dishes along with some standard Americanized Chinese fare. They have some good lunch combo deals at $6.95 – $9.95.
Decor, Vibe – Asian decor with lots of artifacts on the walls. We tried it at lunch when it was full of workers on lunch break. The noise level was very high.

Picks:
Burmese Tea
Green Papaya Salad ($8.75) had Fresh green papaya with onion, garlic chips, peanut, dried grounded shrimp and special dressing. A nice refreshing starter with some citrusy flavor.
Basil Chicken ($9.50) was more on the sweet side. Lots of bell peppers, onions, parsley, and a little basil. Smaller chunks of chicken.
OK:
Curry Lamb ($12.95) was very spicy and flavorful, to the point of masking the meat taste. Large quantity of tender meat though. Also greasy.
Pans:
None
Free Egg drop soup
They started us out with complimentary egg drop soup and finished off with a little mango pudding. The Lunch Specials are a very good value here. The service was good, better than most Chinese restaurants. They asked us if everything was ok, many, many times. The food is decent but not very authentic, Americanized and laced with MSG.
We’d prefer Pagan or Burma Superstar in San Francisco. This is probably the best bet for more Chinese-Burmese oriented food in this area, although nearby Singaporean Straits Restaurant is pretty good.
