Why did we dine here? – Mokutanya is a modern Japanese restaurant located in a non-descript strip mall in sleepy Burlingame. A friend suggested this restaurant, so we were excited to give it a try. The food and atmosphere exceeded our expectations. Kokko and Izakaya Mai is one of the better skewer restaurants in this area and Mokutanya exceeds it in terms of quality and fun.
Insider Tip – Make reservations, this place gets busy especially late
Cuisine – Japanese Yakitori
Location – Burlingame
Opened – 2011
Service – Mokutanya had fair service. We had to chase them down to get many things done.
Verdict – Mokutanya is a fun Japanese Izakaya style restaurant with surprisingly good food and an extremely modern interior. Apparentely, the restaurant turns into more of a night club in the late evening. They close at 2am everyday.
Because the service hit or miss, we recommend that you order everything at one time.
Mokutanya Signature Dishes – Skewers, Saki, Ramen.
Mokutanya’s Menu has a wide variety of items including many different Yakitori charcoal grill skewers. It will take many of these to get full, so expect expensive bills.
