Why did we dine here? – Black Bear Diner is a chain with many locations in Central California. We kept passing locations and decided to see what this place was all about.
Insider Tip – Be prepared to pig out, so come here hungry.
Cuisine – American
Location – Mt. Shasta, CA
Opened – 1995
Service – Black Bear Diner had fair service. We had to flag down the waitress several times.
Verdict – Black Bear Diner is a popular restaurant due to its immense quantities of low cost food. Surprisingly we found to be decent! Look for a location in your area. Milpitas and Gilroy are the closest within the San Francisco Bay Area.
Black Bear Diner Signature Dishes – chicken fried steak, pot-pie
Black Bear Diner’s Menu features a wide variety of dishes from salads to burgers to steaks. Many items are frozen!
Black Bear Diner Food Picks:
Quesadilla
Cup of Chili with onion and cheese – Served with a Corn Bread Muffin – a good sized cup of decent chili.
Tri-Tip Dip – Seasoned tri-tip covered in grilled onions, mushrooms and Swiss cheese on our French roll with au jus – good sized portion of meat along with a fairly bland dipping sauce.
Bear Paw Chicken-Fried Steak – classic artery clogging dish with lots of gravy.
Kids Tri Tip – beautiful looking tri-tip. The adult version should be just as good.
Strawberry Pie – a rock hard crust, but a decent strawberry, whip cream filled interior.
