Reviewer: Foodnut.com The Old Post Office 222 Park Rd Burlingame, CA 94010 (650) 502-1000 |
The Old Post Office is a beautiful American restaurant from the Bacchus restaurant group behind Selbys, Spruce, Village Pub etc. It opened in October 2026. The restaurant is housed in the former Burlingame post office building. Art Deco style to the max. With this type of lineage, it was a no brainer to get out and try this spot. Currently rated 4.9 on google, 4.4 on Yelp. Finally a fine dining establishment in moneyed Burlingame, Hillsborough! Lots of investors tripping over each other to get a piece of this restaurant’s action.
The main dining room offers prix-fixe menus with a choice of dishes for each course. $120 Dinner and weekend brunch feature three-courses, while $55 lunch includes two-courses with the option to add dessert. We emailed ahead and added the $80 supplemental whole roast duck. (Only 6 a night) Having remembered the awesome duck from Village Pub, this was a no brainer. You can order a la carte only at the bar but there is a burger!
Service was very good. Knowledgeable server who helped us navigate dietary restrictions, handled the pacing well, etc. Never need to ask for water, etc. 5% employer mandated expenses.
This is not cheap but inline with comparable spots in San Francisco. We have no issues recommending this place. Come for lunch to save money or eat the burger in the bar.
Food Review: ($120 Prix fixe)
Parmesan Tartlet Canape 9/10
Laminated Brioche with engraved cultured butter. Beautiful loaf that is a huge portion size. Almost pastry like. Silky butter with salt. 10/10 – Gluten free bread and egg free epi is available.
Autumn Salad – bibb and castelfranco lettuces, asian pears, sunflower seeds was just too sour with its vinaigrette. The clinker of the night. 5/10
CITRUS – CURED HIRAMASA – yuzu crème fraîche, kishu mandarin, purple shiso, chicharrón is a beautiful looking dish with a mixture of textures and flavors. 9/10
MT. LASSEN TROUT JUSTE FUMÉE – cauliflower purée, grenobloise, fines herbes is a huge portion of perfectly cooked fish. A bit too much brown butter. 9/10
PORK BELLY EN FEUILLE DE BRICK – rainbow swiss chard, charred onion soubise, lemon-thyme jus was nicely done with tender pork belly cooked almost Chinese BBQ style. 9/10
Duck for two ($80 supplement) is perfect for duck fans. It is aged 10 days and carved tableside. You get it 4 ways: duck breast, duck liver with brioche, robust duck bone broth, and grilled duck legs sauteed with plum vinegar, sherry vinegar, and blackberry vinegar plus a show! Must order ahead. Takes 1 hour to cook. 10/10
MANDARIN OR ANGE CREAMSICLE – yogurt mousse, crispy meringue, mango-mandarin sorbet is a fun dish that was not too sweet. Nice amount of creamy mandarin flavor. 9/10
GRANNY SMITH APPLE – sake crémeux, puffed wild rice was an even better dessert with soft texture of the cremeux and some crisp rice crunch. It looks like a green slime blob. 10/10
T I P S Y C A K E – brandy cream, caramel, roasted vanilla bean gelato was like a crazy bread a la mode. Look beautiful, very nicely done. Save lots of room for dessert. 10/10
Strawberry spritzer ($16) is a NA drink that hit the spot – Fruity, bubbly, easy. Nice and tall and not full of ice. 9/10
Petit Fours to round out the meal. Chocolate or Fancy Multi Layered Cookie.
