Josephine Chez Dumonet is a popular old school Bistro in the 6th Arrondissement, St. Germain, not far from the Jardin du Luxembourg. It was open in 1898 and is run by 3rd generation Jean-Christian Dumonet. We came to this restaurant to feel what Paris felt like in the old days. They serve half portions so you can sample lots of cuisine. They are known for excellent boeuf bourguignon, steak tartare, and roasted saddle of lamb. Our first visit was in 2009 and we returned in 2024. Paris Trip 2024 Restaurant Reviews Decor, Vibe – Old world Paris with front bar area, banquettes, amber walls, classic lights, pantina tones, old posters. This place has not been updated in many years and shouldn’t be! Mostly Americans were dining. Folks were mostly in the 40-60 range. Tables are yours for the evening. Interesting, they do not answer the phone. We were late and couldn’t get a hold of anyone. Josephine Chez Dumonet Menu is short and concise. A section of cold starters and then meat entrees. Few options for vegetarians. They do have an English menu. Gone in 2024 was cassoulet, fish and some other dishes. Amuse Bouche Cold Gazpacho Josephine Food Picks: Massive […]

Be sure to secure your iPhone or Android Smartphone whenever you travel. Precautions will help prevent disaster. The iPhone or any Android Smartphone is an essential tool when traveling to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for tourists of any country. Google maps, travel guides, language translation, and many other apps are extremely useful. We used them all the time. Using our American AT&T iPhone in Kuala Lumpur was tricky. Most Verizon iPhones from the USA do not work internationally, since they use CDMA technology. Verizon does carry several “World Phones” which work with SIM Cards. We have done the research on our last trip and are sharing the findings with you. We also have articles on using prepaid SIM cards in other countries: Using iPhones in Hong Kong Using iPhones in China Using iPhones in France Using iPhones in the UK Using iPhones in Japan Be sure to read our restaurant reviews for France: Paris: Guy Savoy Le Cinq Other Paris Restaurant Reviews Elsewhere: La Reserve de Nice, Nice Other France Restaurant Reviews Here are some tips on using your iPhone in France You can only use foreign SIM cards in an unlocked iPhone or Android Smartphone.

Lao Tseu, which means Old Master in Chinese, is a Restaurant Chinois or Chinese restaurant in Paris’s 7th right on busy Saint Germain Boulevard. We were looking for some non French cuisine to vary things a little bit. Decor, Vibe – Several tables on the sidewalk and 3 floors inside with an elegant dark wood Chinese theme, nice Buddha decoration. Mostly middle aged non Asians, many regulars, some tourists, were dining in this crowded establishment. Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Full Menu Picture Set Picks: Poulet (12€) – Sweet and sour chicken had a good sauce, lots of pineapple and bell peppers. It was a small dish though. Assortiment de vapeur (7) – Steamed Dumplings were fresh and hot. Nice filling and wrapper. OK: Potage piqant a la pekinoise (6€) – Hot and Sour Soup with egg drop was an average version. Thick dark broth without much complexity. They even overcharged us by 1€ on this. Potage au poulet et aux vermicelles chinois (6) – Vermicelli chicken soup was also pretty standard issue. Lots of noodles, bean curd, seaweed, but not a lot of flavor. Canard roti a la Catonaise (12) – Roast duck was thinly sliced […]

Chez Vong is a fancy Chinese / Vietnamese restaurant located in the 1st Arrondissement, specifically the Les Halles area of Paris. We wanted some Chinese food for a change, so we decided to try this place. Decor, Vibe – Dimly lit (So our photos are terrible), lots of Chinese artifacts and design. This place transports you to legendary Shanghai with all its art and decor. It seems like any serious restaurant works hard on its decor. Most people dining were locals, and not Asians. Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Website Menu – Full Menu Set Picks: Canard aux 8 parfumes (20.50) Eight spice duck was a good dish. Cooked and then lightly deep fried with good flavor. OK: Potage au crabe et aux asperges (11€) – Asparagus and crab soup was average. It was clearly a fast boiled soup as it lacked flavor. Legumes sautes a la sauce d’huitres (12.50) – Sauteed Bok Choy in oyster sauce was done just fine. Nouilles Sautees (10) Pan Fried Dan Dan Noodles with vegetables was average. Noodle quality was fair. Pans: Riz Gluant (11) – Plain sticky rice was terrible. There was not anything even inside of it. Chez Vong […]

L’As du Fallafel is a very popular, low cost Middle Eastern Fallafel restaurant and is known as the favorite fallafel place of Lenny Kravitz. They have a walk up window that seems to always have a line, as well as a sit down restaurant. Opened in 1979, it is located in the stylish Marais neighborhood, 4th arrondissement, not far from the Musee Picasso. This place is covered by the usual tour books. Decor, Vibe – Typical low cost diner decor with lots of tables, booths, and waiters constantly running around. Minimal decor. Lots of younger folks were eating when we visited for lunch. Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Menu Pita Sandwich menu Entrees, Plats Wine List Website Menu Picks: None OK: Assiette schawarma (18€) A big plate of full of lamb, french fries, cucumber tomato salad, and lettuce. The meat quality was average but the quantities immense. This plate is good enough for two people. Came with some big pieces of high quality fresh flat bread. Schawarma Sandwichs Pitas (9€): A large pita bread over stuffed with hummus, grilled eggplant, cabbage, radish, tomato, cucumber. The sandwich contains the requisite super-crisp, garlicky chickpea fritters, with creamy hummus, lightly […]
