La Fourchette is a Provencal cuisine bistro located in Avignon about a block from the main street with the Palace du Papes. They specialize in Vaucluse caillettes, Les pieds et paquets, or a great Avignon daube. Their three course prix fix dinner costs a reasonable 30.50€. Decor, Vibe – Big windows that were open to the street, quirky decor with forks, cutlery, pots, and lots of old posters on the walls. The place was full, lots of locals and some tourists were dining. Relaxed, not formal atmosphere. Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Menu English Menu Picks: Cheap and excellent house rose – 10€ for half bottle. Easily triple the price, back in the US. Les 12 escargots de Bourgogne au beurre et fines herbes (2€ supplement) – Dozen Burgundy snails cooked in garlic and parsley butter is a classic dish that looked very greasy but was balanced with spices and the soft snail meat. A must get. La salade de tomates cerise et confites a la mozzarelle – Cherry tomato Salad with mozzarella and parma ham was a light and healthy salad, showcasing some local produce. The cheese was strong and tasted like a goat cheese mozzarella. […]

Hiely Lucullus is a popular restaurant in Avignon, France on the second floor above a clothing store on a main Avignon street. It reigned supreme for years as the top restaurant until Christian Etienne opened and got a Michelin Star. The haute cuisine served is predominantly French, Mediterranean, and Provencal. Grilled Alpine lamb is their specialty dish. They have some very good deals during lunch (19€). We can for dinner and were allowed to order a lunch deal as well two dinner Menu Carte (35€). Decor, Vibe – Classic belle epoque decor. Old school creaky hard wood floors, classic chairs, soft music. This is a nice refuge from the busy street outside. Lots of older folks were dining, many probably visiting nearby college students. Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Website Menu Amuse Bouche puree on a cucumber. Picks: La crème glacée et figues – Strawberry Ice cream with figs. Creamy ice cream with several cooked figs coated with balsamic vinegar. Le petite marmite du pecheur – Shellfish and fish poached in saffron sauce was a timeless classic that dates back to 1938. Little bits of each with barley grains and a light saffron sauce.

L’ Epice and Love is a quirky but small restaurant in the heart of Avignon, France. Modestly priced, they serve simple food that is well prepared. Madame Marie is the chef and owner and speaks English. The place is rated #1 on Tripadvisor for Avignon probably because it only costs 16.80€ for a 3 course dinner. Decor, Vibe – Kitchen utensils line the window showing you that this place has charm and character. Old well used seats and tables. Sofas in side. Outdoor seating is on the opposite side of the street. Mostly younger folks in their 20’s to 40’s were dining. Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Picks: Parfait de foie de veloulle – Chicken liver was lighter than duck’s liver. Three big chunks, bread, and a big salad. OK: Plats Enfants (5€) – Kids Beef dinner was beef, pasta, and some veggies. Good enough to satisfy the kids. Auh pasti – Antipasti was some a big plate of mostly vegetables with some prosciutto. Massive quantity over quality. Tajine ole oulle aux Pruneaux – Quail with prunes and cous cous was over cooked but otherwise average. Joues de porc – Pork cheeks were cooked in a stew […]
