Yelp and Trip Advisor were not helpful in spotting places to eat at, only Google reviews were useful. We did not seek our Michelin rated spots. The exchange rate was US$1 = 143¥, very favorable. Many meals cost 50% less than in San Francisco, with BETTER quality too! Where to buy a SIM Card at the Osaka Kansai Airport (KIX) After you clear customs, you will see vending machines down the hall in an area titled: Wi-Fi Rental Box SIM Card We bought a 5 day Unlimited for Y2600. We had to adjust the APN on our router and then all was fine. 12/15/23 Membo 北区紅梅町5-23 Osaka, 大阪府 Kita Ward https://www.yelp.com/biz/%E3%82%81%E3%82%93%E5%9D%8A-%E5%A4%A7%E9%98%AA%E5%B8%82 Menbo is a small family run restaurant just a couple blocks from our Hotel: Imperial Osaka hotel. Prices are extremely low and the quality decent. A set menu with curry, udon rice and salad was about US$8 or 1000¥. 8/10 Sukiyaki beef udon was also very good. 8/10 Overall – Very Good – 80/100 Food – Very […]

They have a high end butcher shop next door. The folks running this restaurant are serious enough to get A5 tatoos! Executive Chef Steve Brown and the team from Omakase Restaurant Group (Omakase, Udon Time, Dumpling Time) has created a unique experience. Niku has an in-house butcher, Guy Crims, who also oversees the nose-to-tail butcher program at The Butcher Shop by Niku. We came for some high end meat gluttony. Check out our review of A5 Wagyu temple: Don’s de la Nature in Tokyo, Japan. Insider Tip – They have a bar and a couple tables for walk ins. Cuisine – Steakhouse, Japanese Location – Design District Opened – 2019 Service – Niku Steakhouse had very good service that faded as the place filled up. They are clearly trying to set a high bar. Verdict – Niku Steakhouse is a high end Steakhouse focuses on high quality meats including expensive A5 Wagyu from Japan. The place is expensive, easily over $100 a person. A great treat for meat fans. Alexander’s Steakhouse San Francisco also has A4, […]

Twenty Five Lusk – 25 Lusk is a long-awaited and hot restaurant from an All-Star team that opened in the middle of October, 2010. Tucked away in an alley, this place will draw much walk-in traffic! They serve “sophisticated, contemporary, approachable fine dining specializing in neoclassical-influenced cuisine”, which probably means locally inspired California cuisine. Our last visit was in 2012. Famed Architect Cass Calder Smith designed 25 Lusk’s space to bridge modern and industrial elements. Cuisine – French-inspired contemporary American Chef – Matthew Dolan (Café des Artistes, New York, Emeril’s, New Orleans, Garibaldi’s, San Francisco) Location – Soma, South Beach, 2 Blocks from AT&T Park Decor, Vibe – Twenty Five Lusk is located in a historic 1917 building that once housed the Ogden Packing and Provision smokehouse and meat processing facility and features massive windows, exposed brick, slate tiles, smoked mirrors, mirrored incandescent bulbs, suspended fireplaces, tropical wood veneers, glassed in kitchen, and a chefs table. The bar is located in the basement and fills up with the local happy hour crowd. Upstairs it was mainly the forty-something well-dressed crowd along with some hipsters. Mayor Brown was hanging out downstairs on our first visit. Our last visit was in October […]
