Why did we dine here? – HL Peninsula opened near Costco Business center of South San Francisco. This is a large and opulent restaurant that is typical of ones in China. High ceilings, huge TV screens, and many private rooms. (Reminds us of J Zhou in Tustin) There is no other place like this nearby. They are part of a restaurant group that has locations in Vancouver and China. Yes, China money is flowing in and we are benefiting from better restaurants. They opened a sister restaurant, HL Peninsula Pearl, about 6 miles away, just south of the Airport, in Burlingame. Each location has a slightly different menu with a couple dishes that the others don’t have. We have some notes about that location below. Other SF Bay Area locations include Milpitas plus a huge one in Castro Valley. Automatic 16% service charge. Upscale IFC Shopping Center – Glitzier than any USA Mall Lung King Heen (View of the Dragon) is a top rated Michelin restaurant in Hong Kong, with 2 stars now, making this like the French Laundry of Hong Kong. Using your iPhone in Hong Kong with eSIMs helps you stay connected. Controversy erupted after the decision, with some in Hong Kong questioning the ratings. Over the years, they have continued to make believers, as other restaurants have come and gone from the 3 star list. Tang court is the only Chinese restaurant with 3 stars in 2025. Lung King Heen is located on the 4th floor of the posh Four Seasons Hotel on Hong Kong Island, and is connected to the ultra high end International Finance Center – IFC shopping mall complex. Needless to say, we have eaten here on every trip we have had since they first got 3 stars. Our last visit for lunch was at the Spring of 2025. Prices have gone up and the selection of items adjusted. If you have a short stopover in Hong Kong, you can take the MTR express […]

Great Eastern Restaurant San Francisco has been serving Cantonese Chinese food in this location for many years. They serve dim sum during lunch, and some dim sum items plus traditional dishes during dinner. We visited for dim sum lunch lunch, early on a weekend day. Great Eastern Dinner was reviewed on a separate visit. President Obama famously ate here in 2012, so did Apple’s Tim Cook. Our last visit for dim sum was in the fall of 2025. Be sure to read our Introduction to Chinese dim sum article and Chinese restaurant San Francisco post.

Sea Harbour Seafood Restaurant is one of best Cantonese Chinese restaurants in Southern California, according to several different sources. Foodnut agrees, it continues to be our go to place when we are in Southern California for Dim Sum. We have been to Sea Harbour Vancouver, Canada and to a location in Zhongshan – Guangzhou, China, and had solid meals everytime, so it was a no brainer to come here. This restaurant group has about 30 locations in China. They are known as Harbour City Seafood Restaurant there – Dianping Page for Zhongshan location. This is an 18,000 sq ft HUGE restaurant. Sea Harbor serves dim sum during lunch, and traditional Cantonese dishes at dinner time. Our last visit was at the end of 2016. Prices were up over 2014. We found this restaurant better than Elite, King Hua, Lunasia, and several other Chinese restaurants we have tried in the San Gabriel Valley. Other candidates for top LA Area Chinese Cantonese Restaurants: Lunasia Dim Sum House – Pasadena and Alhambra – Dim Sum lunch and dinner! – Just not as good, especially at dinner. China Red – Arcadia. Newcomer. King Hua – Alhambra – Very Good, but not as good as Sea Harbor Shi Hai […]
