They serve dim sum during lunch, dinner and traditional Chinese items during dinner. Great Eastern dim sum lunch was reviewed separately. President Obama dined here in February 2012, so did Tim Cook. Great Eastern has Restaurant has an extensive menu, live seafood in tanks, and some preset dinners. Our last visit was at the end of 2025. Be sure to read our article How to order in authentic Chinese dinner Decor, Vibe – Great Eastern is a Busy, loud Chinese restaurant. They have a downstairs dining room, which feels like eating in the basement! Some tourists, big family gatherings, and some Caucasians were dining. Great Eastern Restaurant, San Francisco Menu See our dim sum lunch review for their menu. They still have some dim sum items at dinner, though their Price seems higher. Great Eastern Food Picks: Hot and Sour Soup Seafood ($19.50) was not cheap but hit the spot for flavor. Not very spicy. 8/10 Sauteed Clams ($22.50) with black bean sauce was done perfectly. Lots of tender clams. 9/10 Seafood combination claypot with bean curd ($21.50) is a classic dish […]

Our last visit was in the middle of 2023 when they moved in to a new location next to Portsmouth square. Be sure to read our Introduction to Chinese Dim Sum Decor, Vibe – Modern clean decor with nice ambience, a lot better than the old location. People of all ages, tourists, families, friend get togethers. City View Menu City View’s menu has the usual classic dim sum dishes. Pictures are next to each entry. Not much in the way of modern inventive dimsum. City View Food Picks: Black Bean Spare Ribs ($6.50) did not have any black beans but was edible. A little spicy with the green jalapenos. 7.5/10 Sesame Ball with Lotus ($5.50) were 3 medium sized balls filled with just a little sweet filling. The crust was unusual, pretty thick and doughy. 7.5/10 Shrimp Dumpling or Har Gow ($9) were 4 delicate and nicely done shrimp balls filled with fresh shrimp and a thick wrapper. 8.5/10. Pork Siu Mai ($7.50) had 4 correct sized dumpling with good filling. 8/10 Green Onion Pancake ($7.50) were super thin, hot and crispy. 8.5/10 […]

They have been around since Lichee Garden closed, 2012. They are VERY popular for lunch (Noon had a Wait for a Monday lunch), but it was much more quiet at dinner. We were in the neighborhood so we decided to try it out, being big Chinese food fans. Last visit was in Winter 2024. This restaurant is a sister restaurant to Hong Kong Lounge. The menu is similar, but we found the food better here. Be sure to read: Foodnut’s Beginners Introduction to Chinese Dim Sum Best Chinese in San Francisco Be sure to read our article How to order in authentic Chinese dinner Decor, Vibe – A small step up up from standard Chinese restaurant decor. Looks the same as before and smell like it too. This is not a big restaurant. Some big groups of friends and families, and couples of all ages were dining. Very popular with the local Chinatown crowd. Lai Hong Lounge Menu Pretty standard check off traditional dim sum menu along with a couple modern dishes. Beware that it is hard to get a tablet with – No reservations -. This restaurant is especially busy during Chinese New Year, typically in late January or early February. Our last visit was in 2018. They do not serve dim sum lunch, but R&G Former Owner Kinson Wong’s Harborview does.

bund Shanghai Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown that serves Shanghainese cuisine and opened in 2009. It is named after one of the touristy but must visit areas of Shanghai next to the Huangpu river. Most of the restaurants in Chinatown serve Cantonese cuisine in contrast to this place. We stopped by for a quick snack in 2009, then returned for lunch in late 2011. Decor, Vibe – bund Shanghai Restaurant has a clean, well lite interior with a flat panel TV running. Mostly Asian diners of all ages, families, locals, and a couple tourists. It was more barren in 2011 with Great Eastern across the street having long lines for dim sum. bund Shanghai Menu Pictures Shanghai Dim Sum items bund Shanghai Picks: Pan Fried Pork Buns ($5.95) was very good, better than ones from most places. Nice crunchy fried crust, nice meat inside. No soup unlike Sunny Shanghai. Pan Fried Mantou Buns ($3.50) with sweetened condensed milk was good. Cooked just right and slightly crunchy. In 2010 the quality faded to just ok. Green Onion Pancake ($3.95) was thick and very flavorful. A very good version of this classic dish. In 2010 the quality faded to just […]
