Beautiful atmosphere in the middle of the wine country, superb service, and of course great food. You could argue that this restaurant or that restaurant has a better beef course or appetizer, but few have the exquisite combination of everything. The French Laundry is a legendary restaurant located in the Napa Valley town of Yountville California, Ground Zero for some of the best restaurants in California. They opened in 1994 and have been legendary ever since. The restaurant received three Michelin stars in 2012 and is at the top of many best restaurant lists. Our most recent visit was in Summer 2021 during the Pandemic. They focus on American food with French influences. Thomas Keller is world renown for some of the best cooking. He focuses on the best ingredients and does not discuss prices with suppliers. This was our first visit in way too many years. The Empire now includes per se in New York, Bouchon in Yountville, Las Vegas, and Beverly Hills, and ad hoc in Yountville.

Classic French done right. Bouchon is a French bistro that is part of the Thomas Keller French Laundry empire. They have locations in Yountville and Las Vegas, we have been to both and finally had a chance to return to the Napa Valley location after 8 years. Be sure to check out the Bouchon Cookbook Bouchon’s classic French decor sets the mood, with rich colors, large paintings that prepare you for a top French meal. Clearly most of the people here are touring the Wine country. The restaurant is not very big and has a busy, loud vibe. The Vegas location is far bigger. The room looks like it was transported from France. Bouchon Bakery is next door, which sells some of the best pastries and bread around. Bouchon Menu Website Menu Bouchon Food Picks: Huitres – Oysters half dozen ($24.50) of kusshi’s were fresh and accompanied with a lemon, cocktail sauce, aioli, and a mignonette sauce. Demi-Homard – Half Lobster ($17.50) was served chilled and was pretty big. Good quality with sweet meat. Pomme Frites with truffle ($18) was expensive but decadent, with small black bits of truffle. If you like truffle, order this! Assiette de Charcuterie ($14.50) with picked vegetables, […]

Be sure to check out the French Laundry Cookbook Ad Hoc is the French Laundry Empire’s family style, lower cost restaurant with a single prix (price) fixed $52 Four course family style meal everyday. Sunday brunch breakfast is now being served for $24. Behind it is addendum, a cash only to go counter serving their legendary Pork Ribs & Pulled Pork or Buttermilk Fried Chicken for $16.50. This is great for those with no reservations. We sampled the Fried chicken in Summer 2012. There are no options other than beverages at Ad Hoc, and the menu serving American comfort food changes everyday. They do offer a pasta option for kids and accommodate vegetarians. Thomas Keller originally created Ad Hoc to fill the time gap from when he bought the old Wine Garden location to when he was to open a high end burger joint. It is located in the Napa Wine country in the culinary center of Yountville. The restaurant has subdued decor with a warm inviting atmosphere. It was not as noisy as Bouchon, which is 2 blocks away.

Why did we dine here? – Redd Wood is the sister restaurant to Michelin-starred Redd in foodie heaven, Yountville. We love Redd, so we were just waiting for our next visit to this area for an opportunity to dine here. Redd is one of those top notch places that falls below the radar of many folks. This restaurant is located in the northern part of Yountville, not far from the French Laundry. As the restaurant puts it, “Redd Wood’s menu showcases regionally inspired seasonal cuisine with wine country influences.” They serve Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Insider Tip – Order a salad, pasta, and pizza. Cuisine – American Location – Yountville, California Opened – 2012 Service – Redd Wood had reasonable service, with servers new the menu, the food came fast, and our needs were met quickly. Verdict – Redd Wood fulfilled our high expectations. The pastas were impressive, rivaling the best places in San Francisco. The pizza was decent, while the soup and salad that we ordered surpassed our high standards. Redd Wood for lunch, Redd for dinner anyone? After a meal, take a walk down the road to see The French Laundry garden. Redd Wood Signature Dishes – Pizza, […]

Why did we dine here? – Bistro Jeanty was one of the last major restaurants in Yountville that we have not reviewed. Has any foodie knows, this town is an eaters paradise. As good a reason as any to give it a try! They lost their Michelin star a couple years back, so we did not have high expectations. Would this place make up for not going to Redd? Insider Tip – Make reservations, this place is still busy during peak times. Cuisine – French Location – Yountville Opened – 1998 Service – Bistro Jeanty had adequate service, but not top notch service like most of the other venues in this town. There were long pauses and some hailing was necessary. Verdict – Bistro Jeanty serves up decent classic French cuisine in a very homey atmosphere. We would probably pick Bouchon over this restaurant if we were forced to pick one French restaurant to visit in Yountville. Bouchon has better service and slightly better food, but lacks all the classic dishes here. Signature Dishes – Cream of Tomato soup, Coq Au Vin, steak Frites. Bistro Jeanty’s Menu reads like a classic French menu with all the dishes foodies know and […]
