We have passed by many times, on our way back from hiking or biking, and felt it was time to try it. They have received One Michelin star starting from 2009. They use lots of seasonal, local, and organic ingredients. They have a sister restaurant Spruce, in San Francisco. We returned to Village Pub a year later for dinner and found the quality of food and service still excellent. The place was full on a Sunday night! Our last visit was for dinner in 2023 when it was pretty full. 3 course prix fixe runs $100. Not cheap. Bar Decor, Vibe – Village Pub has an old school clubby atmosphere with lots of dark wood. Cool open hearth cooking station using almond wood. Lots of dress shirt clad VCs and older folks were lunching. Well dress folks from nearby towns filled the place at night. They added a nice outdoor patio with steel roof during the Pandemic. Village Pub Menu Website Village Pub Menu – Their menu changes from time to time, based on the seasons. They moved to a 3 course prix fixe menu for both lunch […]

Buck’s is a quirky restaurant nestled in the small town of Woodside. The interior is full of off the wall models, toys, posters, and more. Even the front of the seasonal menu has a lecture on different topics. Their website is pretty crazy. Our last visit was in 2014. They have a separate lunch special menu that changes from time to time. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We came for lunch. View from Front Door Bar Area Decor, Vibe – Buck’s has amusement park decor with all off beat crazy but fun items all over. Kids love this place. Many older folks, nearby VCs, regulars, and locals were eating lunch. Buck’s Menu Pictures Website Buck’s Menu Buck’s Picks: Mahi Mahi ($21) with lime strawberry mango salsa, grilled fennel and spinach with a grilled potato was a special fish entree one evening. Having eaten many beautiful fish dishes, this one looked pretty messy. Buck’s did a very nice job cooking the fish along with the strawberry salsa. Broiled salmon Medallion ($16.50) with sweet roasted red pepper, sauteed spinach, over grilled polenta with lemon butter was recommended by our server. Well cooked and pretty fresh. The polenta was absolutely huge and […]

Alice’s Restaurant is located in the San Francisco coastal mountain range at the intersection on Highway 35 Skyline Blvd, and Highway 84. They are “Home to the best specialty burgers in the world”, as they put it. Lots of motorcyclists stop here on the weekend as well as hikers, bikers, and those touring the area. We have eaten here several times, the last time in June 2010. Decor, Vibe – This place has a country feel to it, with a counter and lots of outdoor seating. Lots of tourists, motorcycle riders, bicyclists, locals, and some public servants aka cops were dining. Menu pics Full Alice’s Restaurant Menu Image Set OK: Half Slab of Ribs ($16.95 Lunch) was a good sized slab but looked an unappetizingly pale. They were passable but could have been warmer. Meat was tender and fell off the bone. The BBQ sauce was zesty but probably out of a can. Included some decent fries and a tiny salad. We tried the half pound Kobe Beef burger ($10.95) and found it came with fresh condiments, but was cooked too well. The meat started to fall apart and really didn’t taste special. A real Kobe Beef burger would cost […]

Woodside Bakery & Cafe is a combination Bakery and cafe in upscale Woodside, right next door to Buck’s. The bakery has been here since the 1980’s. Our last visit was in October 2011. Decor, Vibe – Bakery area up front, big wood fired pizza oven in the kitchen. Outdoor patio in the back. Locals, tourists and bikers passing through, larger parties were eating lunch. Woodside Bakery and Cafe Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Picks: Spinach-Mushroom Soup ($7 Bowl) was solid albeit a bit on the rich side. Roasted Lamb Panini with grilled red onions, roasted peppers, rosemary aïoli ($12) was a nice grilled sandwich but could have used more of the lamb. Big side salad. OK: Pizza Margherita ($12) with vine ripe tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil (tomato sauce optional) was pretty average with little flavor to it. Cheese was pretty forgettable. Almond Crusted Rainbow Trout ($15) stir fried Asian vermicelli salad with orange ponzu sauce looked like they chopped half for another person’s dish. It was decent but crusted heavily. Pans: Chop Chop Salad ($12) romaine, artichoke hearts, olives, gorgonzola, smoked bacon, red onion, hard cooked egg was a miss mash of ingredients […]
