Plant based cuisine satisfying even Carnivores. Why did we dine here? – Shizen Vegan Sushi Bar & Izakaya has remarkable 4.5 stars on Yelp. With the plant based revolution booming, we just had to try this spot. We’ve returned a couple times.. Must go for vegans and vegetarians. They started offering takeout during the pandemic. Our last visit was in Early 2026. . Service has slipped with almost a rush you in and out attitude. You need to reserve a week in advance to the day on Yelp reservation. They are the sister restaurant to Tane Vegan Izakaya with locations in Palo Alto, Berkeley, and Honolulu. We still like this better than Tane Palo Alto. Shizen was created as an experiment in ocean conservation through responsible dining. They’ve been doing this for a while and have drawn folks in consistently. Insider Tip – Reserve in advance. Cuisine – Japanese, Vegan Location – San Francisco Mission District Opened – 2015 Service – Shizen had far better service than we could envision. The restaurant is small and hectic. No linger time! Nice menu recommendations and the food came fast. Verdict – Shizen blew us away. We did […]

It has been hotly anticipated as there are no such restaurants in this area. We had to previously drive to SF or Palo Alto to get quality vegetarian food. We have dined here multiple times with the last at the end of 2025. In late 2025 we felt the restaurant slipped. The menu was more mainstream with faux burgers and more, the place was pretty empty on a Sunday night and service sucked. They added a bakery, Twelvemonth Bakehouse that is open Thursday – Saturday 8am – Noon. Lots of plant based items you do not see elsewhere! Be sure to check out our review of Encanto, Lisbon for the best vegetarian restaurant we’ve been to. Also Eleven Madison Park, New York for the best vegetarian restaurant in the USA. Insider Tip – Make reservations Cuisine – American Vegan Location – Downtown Burlingame Opened – 2023 The interior is tastefully redone from the previous brewery days and full of unique custom touches. Beautiful separate bar area. Large outdoor patio for when the weather gets better. The Twelvemonth menu is fairly concise, with several clearly market […]

Keep in mind we hit mainstream restaurants and vegetarian oriented ones. If you are a fellow cycling fan, take a bike city tour to learn the etiquette and ride around town. Also be sure to take a countryside biking tour. It is fantastic! We visited when nearby Keukenhof Gardens had their 8 week longs INCREDIBLE tulip festival. March 21, 2024 – May 12, 2024. Be sure to time your visit. Where to buy a SIM Card at the AMS Airport Albert Heijn market closes 11pm. Aankomstpassage 1 – Before security – Make a right after exiting customs. Arrival passage 1 50 – Smaller to go market does not have it Must ask cashier for it. Select the one from Lyca Mobile for 4.49€ – It has 1GB and you can top up online. This sim card worked fine in our Huawei Mi-Fi Moble Router. The Electronics store at the airport charges 39.99€. Food Review Websites Yelp is fairly incomplete. Google has a lot of reviews. Michelin Guide – […]

Tips to Dine here on the cheap! Eleven Madison Park is a well respected American restaurant situated at 11 Madison Avenue in the Flatiron District of New York City. Three Michelin stars were awarded in 2023. The restaurant was ranked #3 in the World by The World’s 50 Best Restaurant list. This was the highest ranking of an American restaurant besting even French Laundry. Naturally we wanted to dine at this place! Le Bernadin was also considered, but seemed a little more old school. (Ranked #24 in the world) Chef Daniel Humm is well known for his outstanding food presented in a fun manner, as well as the well trained waitstaff. Eleven has won the prestigious Ferrari Trento Art of Hospitality Award for its great service. The Immaculate Kitchen Be sure to ask for the tour of the beautiful kitchen! In 2021, they re-opened and switch to an all plant based menu. No more meat, eggs, dairy! In 2021 the New York times gave them a 0 star review.. They serve a seasonal tasting menu of 10 courses for $365 per guest. Price includes gratuities. Little known is the […]

Encanto is a vegetarian restaurant in Lisbon with one Michelin star from star chef José Avillez. We have no vegetarian restaurant with this rank back in San Francisco, so we had to give it a try. You can book online, they have a single 12 course tasting menu that is also available in English. Our server spoke English too. Be sure to check out our review of Eleven Madison Park, New York for the best vegetarian restaurant in the USA. Check out our Portugal Restaurant Review roundup Legumes, leaves, seeds, algae, mushrooms, flowers, fruits, eggs, and cheeses are delicately prepared and served. During the Covid 19 Pandemic in 2023, we visited them for dining. Safety Pluses – Online menu. At 115 €, prices are not cheap but most restaurants of this caliber in San Francisco cost far more than this. Even cocktails and glasses of wine are cheaper here. Food quality was excellent, possibly 2 Michelin star level to us. Inventive, complex, beautiful, and simply delectable. Only 1 dish resembled a plate of veggies. Pacing was good as was quantity. They easily handle a vegan gluten free meal. Reminds us of the beautiful food at Atelier Crenn in […]

Their Marin based Green Gulch Farm provides much of the produce. Greens was a pioneer in the early days, nowadays we have many more plant centric restaurants like Wildseed, Baia, Shizen, etc. Today almost every fancy restaurant accommodates vegetarians to some degree. The menu changes all the time. Our last visit was in the Summer of 2022 during the Pandemic. They had added a nice outdoor seating area as well as takeout. Decor, Vibe – Most tables have a stunning view of the San Francisco Marina’s harbor and the Golden Gate Bridge. (Outside dining doesn’t) The dining room has a mish mash of paintings, wood, and sculpture looking almost unchanged for decades. There were a lot of folks in their 30’s to 50’s dining. A fair amount of green hippies. Greens Menu Different lunch, brunch, and dinner menus. Lots of starter options as well as a good selection of big plates. The menu changes all the time but usually has some pizza and pasta dish. Everything clearly marked, gluten free, vegan, vegan possible. 6% healthy SF Mandate. Website Menu Food Picks: Pinot Noir & Hibiscus Spritz Lemon, Calisaia Bitters ($14) tastes […]
