His restaurants in Bangkok are highly rated: Le Du earned a Michelin star and earned the No. 1 slot in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Nusara has a Michelin star and No. 5 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2026. We recently went to Thailand, so we were interested in seeing how close this is to food we had there. The restaurant is not very big and has nice decor with Thai-pop blaring. We dined here after it had been open for a week, so we expected glitches. Saam is doing better than we expected. 4.8 on Google, 4.7 on Yelp. We love Thai food and find some of the best in Thailand. We recently finished up our latest culinary tour in 2026 visiting: Bangkok Koi Samui Chiang Mai The Thai food was superior to that in the San Francisco Bay Area and much cheaper. The service is at some restaurants another level here. Here are some quick mini reviews of places we ate at, so you can understand how Thai food compares, and so you select the best places on your visit. We have full reviews for places we deemed important enough. Follow our journey and learn from our experiences. Here is a compilation of more casual restaurants, snack places we visited during our 2020 Asia trip. Our goal was to find good eats at reasonable prices, primarily restaurants where locals go. We have no interest sampling cuisine that is done better at home in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is challenging on an expensive ‘island’, full of pricey tourist traps. Useful Websites Michelin Guide Open Rice Our Trip includes visits to Restaurants Snack Shops and more Food Focus: Chicken Rice Local Cuisine Phuket Thailand The restaurant scene here is very chaotic and touristy. It is hard to find true foodie quality restaurants. We went to top rated Trip advisor spots and found them fair at best. It is listed in the Lonely Planet tour book so it is pretty popular. We found the food pretty average though.
