This diamond in the rough is located in sleepy Sunnyvale, and specializes in Shanghainese Chinese cuisine. To the right of this restaurant is the popular Indian Buffet: Sankranti This hole in the wall is best known for Pan fried pork buns. Celebrity Chef Ming Tsai always eats here when in town. Flavor Shop has a fairly short menu of Chinese dishes. Our last visit was in 2019. Shanghai Flavor Shop Decor, Vibe – Shanghai Flavor Shop is a typical low budget Chinese restaurant with basic decor. Local Asians were mostly dining when we visited. Not much English was spoken but you can point to items on the menu. Shanghai Flavor Shop Menu Their menu is compact, lacking many classic Shanghai dishes like Xiao Long Bao, Casserole soups, etc. Great to see all the usual Americanized dishes are missing. Hidden fact unless you ready Chinese: They sell frozen Soup Dumpling aka Xiao Long Bao to go! (Sorry, no Pan Fried Pork Buns) Shanghai Flavor Shop Food Picks: Pan Fried Pork Buns aka Sheng Jian Bao ($8 for 6) were excellent. Crunchy bottom that is a thick. Robust, flavorful and […]

It has been located in a strip mall for about three years. When we went at 1pm on a holiday Monday for Lunch, it was not crowded so we got seated right away. They are very crowded during weekends for dim sum. Here is our dinner review. Be sure to read our Introduction to Chinese Dim Sum. Decor, Vibe – A little above the typical Chinese restaurant in decor. Painted fish on the walls, tons of lights in the ceiling. Restaurant was filled with large tables of co-workers and some friends. Menu Pictures Dim Sum Menu Dim Sum Cart Picks: Xiao Long Bao or Shanghai Pork Dumplings ($3) Four excellent dumplings that we had to order. Hot, very good pork, and tons of soup inside. Ginger Green Onion Beef Tripe ($3) was a solid dish with tons of tender tripe. A bit on the salty side. Coconut Jello ($3) Three white wonders with lots of creamy coconut flavor. Steamed Pork Ribs with Plum Sauce ($2.50) had tons of deliciously flavored meat. Low greasiness level. Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf ($4) Two hot and very good heaps of […]

Hong Kong Saigon Seafood Harbor is a popular Cantonese Chinese restaurant in Sunnyvale. It has been located in a strip mall for about two years. When we went at 745pm on Saturday, it was so crowded that we had to wait 30 minutes to get in. They are also very crowded during lunch for dim sum. Decor, Vibe – A little above the typical Chinese restaurant in decor. Painted fish on the walls, tons of lights in the ceiling. Restaurant was filled with large tables of families and friends. Very loud and crowded. Menu Pictures Full listing of Menus Picks: House special Steamed Chicken ($9.75) is their signature dish. Many people were getting this too. Not a lot of meat on these chickens, but very flavorful meat. Delicious salty peanuts. Included a garlicy dipping sauce as well as a spicy sweet sauce. Roasted Duck ($9.75 half) was a good dish that had some dense meat. The meat needed dipping into the dishes’ juices to enhance its flavor and mellow the texture. Lots of star anise flavor. Rock Cod Steamed ($32.50) for a live 1.25 lb fish from their tanks. They had lots of 2lb plus ones for even more. Expensive […]
