Marlowe is a market driven neighborhood bistro near SF’s ATT park, they moved to the old Coco 500 location in 2014. Chef du Cuisine: Jennifer Puccio was formerly of restaurant Cortez. The focus here is on American comfort food. We decided to try this place because Michael Bauer raved about its burger. Our last visit was in February 2015. Marlowe’s sister restaurant is Park Tavern SF. Decor, Vibe – Marlowe occupies the space that formerly housed South. It is a tiny cramped space with modern decor, communal tables, bench seating, and counter seating. Marlowe was loud and packed with 20 to 30 something dot-commers during lunch and dinner. Marlowe Menu Menu is short with just a couple options for lunch including their famous hamburger. Dinner brings some more expensive options. Signature Dishes – Hamburger, Steak. Website Marlowe Restaurant Menu Full image set Marlowe Picks: Mushroom Soup ($11) whipped creme fraiche, chive, and black truffle gougeres hit the mark. A nice cup of rich warm soup. Marlowe burger ($16) with Caramelized onions, cheddar, bacon, & horseradish aioli consisted of the 80%/20% lean to fat ground beef mix with bit of lamb mixed in. An awesome toasted and buttered Acme Bakery bun topped […]

benu is the long awaited new restaurant in SF from French Laundry Alum and James Beard Award-winning chef Corey Lee. His old boss Thomas Keller is a partner in this new venture and has a wine locker by the front door. benu is housed where Hawthorne Lane used to be. We dined early on, during their 3rd week of operation. benu is a small product driven restaurant focused on contemporary American cuisine. benu is an Egyptian word and that stands for the phoenix, a symbol of something constantly renewing. benu received Two Michelin stars for 2012. The 17 course fixed price menu now costs $180. A la carte is offered Tuesday through Thursday. Benu takes reservations 60 days out and were fully booked the last we checked, indicating that interest here is high, even in the midst of the economic downturn. You need to call right when they open for reservations each morning, to lock one up. Also note that the a la carte Poularde cut en vessie served in 2 courses requires 3 days advanced notice. Decor, Vibe – benu restaurant has low key minimalist decor with lots of beige and cream hues. Dimly lit, airy skylight, Banquette seating, […]

El Norteno is a Mexican mobile food truck in San Francisco. They won the burritoeater 2008 finals. They are located in a parking lot across the street from the Hall of Justice. Decor, Vibe – ‘Roach Coach’ mobile dining with tacos, burritos, and Tortas in a variety of meats including tongue, cabeza, tripas. Very high 98 food inspection score. Menu Pictures Hard to make out the price! Picks: Carne Asada Burrito ($7.50) was massive. It came on a fresh tortilla with good quantities of very delicious and tender beef. Rice and beans were plentiful and also good. We can see why people like this place, this was better than most Mexican restaurants. Hot sauce was really hot. Their chips are thick and not the greatest. OK: None Pans: None Took about 2 minutes to get our food. You have to eat on the sidewalk or take it away, so this is not a conventional place for food. If you wanted a burrito, we would definitely consider getting one from them again. Cash only. The brother in law runs the restaurant location at 3906 3rd St. Food is similar but costs a little more.
