House of Prime Rib opened in 1949 and concentrates on one dish, Prime rib. We have been coming here for many decades, whenever we have a desire for beef. They use corn-fed Prime beef Midwestern beef that is aged for 21 days and cooked in coarse rock salt. Our last visit was in Summer of 2023. We arrived at 5pm as did a ton of other folks, and had our food within 15 minutes. We tried Pandemic takeout in 2021 and found portion sizes small and a ton of packaging waste. Hope it never comes to that again. Our first visit to this fine establishment was way back in the 1970’s! Not much has changed except the prices. This restaurant is popular, we had to book many weeks in advance. The handle upwards of 600 diners a night. It took multiple alerts on different days via Opentable to score a reservation. Very few alerts turn up. Alerts pop up the closer you are to the date. You can dine at the bar, but the experience is far from optimal. Decor, Vibe – House of Prime Rib is a classic steakhouse feel with dark wood, glass paneling, […]

Why did we dine here? – Seven Hills is a quaint neighborhood restaurant in San Francisco’s Russian Hill. We used to live nearby, had heard all the rave reviews, and finally had an excuse to dine there. They proudly list the various local suppliers they use on their website. Michael Bauer gave it a 2.5 star, Very good rating in 2013. A high 4.5 stars on Yelp. Insider Tip – Its a small restaurant, so make reservations. Stick to the pasta. Order side order of Kale and Potatoes. Cuisine – Italian Location – San Francisco Russian Hill Opened – 2010 Service – Seven Hills had decent service that slipped off when the place was full. A knowledgeable waiter did help us. Verdict – Seven Hills met our expectations. The food is very good, and the pasta really shines. We think Bauer was spot on with his assessment. Portion size is small here, so most people will have to order a starter, pasta, entree, and perhaps dessert. (Easy $70 = Expensive) Some give this higher marks due to its coziness. This is a very good neighborhood restaurant not a nationwide destination. Seven Hills Signature Dishes – Raviolo Uovo, pasta. Seven Hills’s […]

Frascati is a Mediterranean style bistro neighborhood restaurant on Russian Hill in San Francisco. Since 1987 this place has been serving it up. It has some of the highest ratings on Yelp. Decor, Vibe – Small corner building with 3 inter mingled levels. This place has neighborhood charm and had lots of locals in their 30’s to 50’s eating. The hostess knew many of those dining. Menu Pictures Dessert menu Big Wine list Wine by Glass Picks: Russet Potato Gnocchi ($10) with butternut squash, black trumphet mushrooms, melted leeks and white truffle oil was very good. Good portion of tender gnocchi, cooked just right. Maple Leaf Duck Breast ($26) with herb spatzle arugula, hearts of palm salad, scallions and huckelberry sauce was cooked to a requested medium rare. The top duck piece had a crispy skin. Cooked just right and tasted wonderful, one of the better duck’s around. Osso Buco Milanese ($27) with saffron scented risotto, carmelized leeks, baby spinach, citrus gremolata was very tender and full of flavor. They even give you a spoon for the bone marrow. The risotto was even better. Roast Cauliflower Soup ($8) with cauliflower salad and Basil oil was very good, smooth and creamy, […]
