Harris’, The San Francisco Steakhouse has been located since 1984. The restaurant has Old school steakhouse traditional decor with tall banquettes, and high quality 21 day dry aged, Mid-western, corn-fed meats. This is one place I think about when folks ask for a Steakhouse in San Francisco. Check out our: Top Steakhouses in San Francisco Decor, Vibe – Old school with a decidedly older clientele along with some tourists. (Do no wear shorts or they will exile you to the bar) Live Jazz music from the bar on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday adds to the classic atmosphere. On a Tuesday night, it was still fairly full. Business folks, couples, and more. Older set and no kids. Noise level was a lot lower than most other high end restaurants. Our last visit was for dinner in September 2024. Don’t feel like eating here or want a souvenir? You can buy some pretty nice looking cuts of beef from their meat counter. Verdict – Service was attentive but not over done. Service in the bar area is definitely inferior. Harris’ is still one of the top Steakhouses in the City. Forget about chains like Ruth Chris. Top notch meats, classic atmosphere. House of Prime Rib opened in 1949 and concentrates on one dish, Prime rib. We have been coming here for many decades, whenever we have a desire for beef. They use corn-fed Prime beef Midwestern beef that is aged for 21 days and cooked in coarse rock salt. Our last visit was in Summer of 2023. We arrived at 5pm as did a ton of other folks, and had our food within 15 minutes. We tried Pandemic takeout in 2021 and found portion sizes small and a ton of packaging waste. Hope it never comes to that again. Our first visit to this fine establishment was way back in the 1970’s! Not much has changed except the prices. This restaurant is popular, we had to book many weeks in advance. The handle upwards of 600 diners a night. It took multiple alerts on different days via Opentable to score a reservation. Very few alerts turn up. Alerts pop up the closer you are to the date. You can dine at the bar, but the experience is far from optimal. Decor, Vibe – House of Prime Rib is a classic steakhouse feel with dark wood, glass paneling, […]

San Mateo Prime restaurant opened in late 2007 in Downtown San Mateo. They specialize in dry aged prime rib cooked with rock salt and slowly roasted. We have driven by many times and decided it was time for a prime rib dinner. San Mateo Prime is modeled after places like House of Prime Rib in San Francisco and Lawry’s The Prime Rib. Entrees come with hot corn bread, salad, popover, and choice of two side dishes. Decor, Vibe – Modern, cozy front bar area with stylish bottle wattle. Airy main dining room with high ceilings, clean trim decor, booths lining the walls. They had a meat cart in the back but did not wheel it around. Couples, friends, some families, mostly in their 40’s and 50’s were dining. More folks in the bar upfront enjoying cocktails and appetizers. Menu (Click to zoom into any picture) Website Menu Picks: Prime Rib 16oz ($34.50) – The San Mateo Prime Cut was a good sized bone-in portion in a perfect medium rare. Tender meat and a nice delectable bone. Nice au jus enhanced the meat flavor. They even asked if we wanted seconds. Mixed Baby Green Salad with Balsamic Vinegar was a pretty […]
