This unlikely strip mall location (Next to Cost Plus World Market), houses a low key, authentic thin crust Neapolitan pizza place. We first learned about this place from a thread on Chowhound. As the waitress put it, these authentic pizzas cook for about 90 seconds in their 900° wood burning oven. Our last visit was Summer 2019.

Mountain View Amber India Restaurant serves Northern, Moghlai and Tandoori Indian cuisine. Locations in Mountain View, San Jose’s Santana Row, and San Francisco. They have a popular lunch buffet that we have tried at both the San Francisco and Mountain View locations. Our last visit was in the Summer of 2012. Mountain View San Francisco Decor, Vibe – Amber India is in a strip mall on El Camino Real in Mountain view. Lots of colorful artwork adorns this location’s walls. The place was filled with Silicon Valley types eating a quick lunch. A fair amount of Indians were present. The San Francisco location is next door to Downtown’s Ross store on Yerba Buena Lane near Market Street. The interior is far nicer at this location with a cool modern bar area. Amber India Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) The menus are similar between location, yet the San Francisco restaurant’s prices are slightly higher.

Scratch is a new restaurant from Rob Fischer who runs Palo Alto Creamery, Reposado, and Gravity. This restaurant opened at the end of 2010. Fine Dining meets American Comfort Cuisine is their motto. We happen to be in the area and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant is modern, with clean lines, lots of wood, and large windows to the Street. Our last visit was at the end of 2011. Summary – Scratch is one of the highlights of the many restaurants on Castro Street in Mountain View. Insider Tip – Eat at the bar and enjoy the view Cuisine – New American Location – Castro St., Mountain View Opened – 2010 Service – Solid service although there were some miscues with regard to silverware. Verdict – Scratch serves up modern American cuisine, something that was not present in the area before they opened up. Google employees need not trek far for some fine dining. If this place was in SF, it would be packed. A good sized wine list with Wines by the glass from $8, bottles from $32.

Maru ichi is a Japanese Noodle restaurant on Castro street in Mountain View. With so many restaurants nearby, this place stands out. The noodles are home made by the worker in the front corner. They specialize in Kuro (Black) Ramen. They also have deep fried chicken for those not looking for noodles. On another visit we had the Kuro with Curry Rice. The curry was slightly zesty but the stewed beef was pretty fatty. Shoyu Ramen ($7.45) had very good broth with crunchy noodles.
