It first opened in 2009. He also runs a the International School of Pizza next door. He is well qualified to make a great authentic pizza! Also part of his empire, the “to go” oriented Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza and Slice House next door, Slice house at Oracle Park, and Italian Restaurant Capo. They serve 4 types of pizza, STG Pizza Napoletana from the 900 degree wood fired oven, Classic Italian from a Domed Brick oven, Classic American from a NY Flat Top Brick oven, and Teglia/Sicilian style from a Italian Brick Oven. Many Ingredients are imported from Italy. They also serve pasta, salads, and antipasti. Our last visit was in the Summer of 2022. The place is super busy, with tons of tourists in line. Pizza quality had fallen. Decor, Vibe – Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in SF has old hardwood floors, baffled ceiling, decorations from the first pizzeria in Naples, four pizza ovens (one is wood burning). Families were dining as were couples and tourists. This place was extremely busy on our last visit, with the lines starting […]

Pizzeria Delfina is the lower cost more casual eatery next to top rated Delfina. They do not take reservations and focus on ‘Neapolitan inspired’, thin crust pizzas and Antipasti. Delfina does not serve pizza. They use local, seasonal ingredients and have a lots of wines by the glass. There are 2 location in San Francisco – Mission and Pacific Heights. In 2026 we dined at the California St SF location. Decor, Vibe – Contemporary design with more seats than the Mission street location. Heated sidewalk tables outside. Stylish couples and friends mostly in their 20’s and 30’s were eating here. If they are busy and have a wait, make sure check to see if the counter is available. The seats near the kitchen are the best in the house! We see what everyone orders and figured what we will order next time. (Mary’s Chicken and the Grilled Local Albacore special) Pizzeria Delfina Menu The menu changes from time to time but includes a good selection of salads, pizzas, and a couple pasta dishes. They have a changing Antipasti, Veggy, Pizza, Pasta, and Piatti dish. Pizzeria Delfina Picks: Angelo & Franco Burrata ($16) with arugula, crostini, […]

Why did we dine here? – Don Antonio by Starita is a popular pizza restaurant in New York City’s Midtown area. It brings together 2 pizza superstars: Roberto Caporuscio of Kesté Pizza & Vino in New York City, and his maestro, Antonio Starita of Pizzeria Starita a Materdei in Naples. Starita in Naples remains our top Pizza experience, so we had to try this place out. This narrow but long and loud restaurant had rock thumping away. Insider Tip – No reservations, so come earlier for faster service. Not far from Theater district. Cuisine – Pizza Location – Midtown New York Opened – 2012 Service – Don Antonio had reasonable service. The server was friendly, especially when we told him we’d been to Starita in Napoli. Don’t expect lots of attention here, afterall it is a pizza joint. Verdict – Don Antonio serves up very good pizza. Not up to Starita in Naples, but pretty fine authentic Neapolitan style pies in the Big Apple. A great place to go when you are in Times Square or watching a show in the Theater district. Is this restaurant worth a 5 minute drive? Yes. 30 minute? Maybe. 1 Hour? Maybe. Don Antonio […]

Why did we dine here? – Locanda Positano is the sister restaurant to now closed Acqua Pazza in San Mateo and has received some high accolades on Yelp. We were in the area, love Italian food, and decided to give them a try. Locanda means inn, in Italian. Positano is a scenic town hugging the Amalfi coast of Southern Italy. We’ve visited there but did not have a meal. Our last visit was in Spring 2017, where we found service had fallen. The restaurant was packed at dinner time, so make reservations ahead of time. It has gotten louder over the years too. Insider Tip – Make reservations on Open Table. Cuisine – Italian Location – Downtown San Carlos Opened – 2011 Service – Locanda Positano had good service with the aloof server checking in every so often. Pacing was fair, as were refills and whatnot. In 2017, the service sagged when we had to eat on the right Gusto side. The owner is omnipresent and trying to be as warming and inviting as possible. Verdict – Locanda Positano is a solid bet for Italian food in San Carlos. The pizza and pasta exceeded our expectations. They also own the restaurant next door Gusto, […]
