The food is simply really good. Its easy to pay a lot up here, but not easy to find a spot like this. We’ve dined at all the stalwarts that have existed for decades and none match up. “Spoon is a funky, off-beat and cozy restaurant with an eclectic american dinner menu.” Closed Tu/Wed Gluten free and vegetarian options. Specials change daily. Last visit end of 2024. Much of the seating is outside with heat lamps during spring/summer, so dress warmly. Only 5 tables inside during winter. Why did we dine here? – Spoon is a highly rated American restaurant on Yelp in this beautiful area. You dine outside under the trees. We’ve been back twice. Spoon is a very small restaurant (only 9 tables), so reserve ahead. Insider Tip – Special Dietary needs? Call ahead to get custom dishes Cuisine – American Location – North Lake Tahoe Opened – 2017 Service – Spoon had friendly and knowledgeable service. Better than expected. Verdict – Spoon is one of the top restaurants in this area of mediocre and high priced tourist traps. Give it a try. Safety Pluses – […]

Why did we dine here? – Cottonwood is one of the chief rivals of Moody’s in Truckee. We have dined so many times at their adversary, we decided it was time to try something new. Cottonwood is located on a hill that overlooks downtown Truckee, a nice view at night. There used to be a hotel next door, but it recently closed. Insider Tip – Eat at the bar to minimize cost. Live music on the weekends. Cuisine – American Location – Truckee Opened – 1988 Service – Cottonwood had surprisingly very good service, with servers passing by fairly often. Verdict – Cottonwood in our book was a decent restaurant but did not outdo Moody’s down the hill. If you want to kick it up a notch dine at Manzanita in the Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe. Signature Dishes – Caesar Salad, Basa Fish, Curried Prawns Cottonwood’s Menu features a good selection of starters and entrees along with some daily specials.

PlumpJack Cafe is a restaurant in the PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn, at the Squaw Valley ski resort. They serve breakfast the hotel guests, lunch and dinner to all. A more informal bar right outside the cafe, also serves food. We were in the area and decided to drop in for a quick bite to eat.
