One of the top restaurants in SF.. Especially for service. Quince is a high end restaurant in San Francisco’s Jackson Square area, near the Financial District run by chef-owner Michael Tusk. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, has cooked extensively in Europe, and used to work at Stars, Oliveto, and Chez Panisse. Our last visit was in Summer 2026, when we found the food better than the year before. What kind of food does Quince serve. They serve modern California cuisine with northern Italian influences with Alice Waters inspired freshness. This restaurant focuses on local, organic, seasonal ingredients. Quince SF has a fantastic casual Italian restaurant next door with a huge fancy parklet – Cotogna. Quince Decor, Vibe – This is a modern elegant, dimly lit romantic restaurant with stylish chandeliers, exposed brick in the back, and high ceilings. Large main dining area with peripheral area in the back, long bar to the side, lounge in front, and a private dining room. Huge 10,000-bottle wine cellar. Clearly this is an special occasion restaurant. After receiving 3 Michelin stars, they are no doubt a major destination of foodies visiting from around […]

This hot spot is the more affordable sister restaurant to Quince, which is located next door. Our last visit was in the Spring of 2024 during the Pandemic. They have a beautiful custom parklet that easily spans theblock. They are a difficult reservation (Through Sevenrooms), requiring a couple weeks buffer time to find a lunch time. Cotogna Dinner Video Cuisine – Italian Chef – Michael Tusk Location – Jackson Square Decor, Vibe – Cotogna is not a large restaurant, a large hardwood communal table situated in front of the kitchen counter seating. A bar area is on the far wall. Large Windows open to the Street, exposed brick, large mirrors, wine glasses on a rack lined the walls. The place was packed, loud, and full of the well-dressed 30s to 50s set. Cotogna Menu Fairly short Menu has classic antipasti, several primi options, fish, grilled items, 2 pizzas, and dessert. They had a family meal as well as the expensive […]

Our last visit was summer 2026, so it was time for some refreshing of our memories. Why did we dine here? – To get a sense of how this restaurant has survived the test of time. Summary – Kokkari still packs them in. The food is very good as is the atmosphere. Insider Tip – Come for lunch if you’re on a budget or get a drink at the bar. Cuisine – Greek Chef – Erik Cosselmon (Rose Pistola) Location – Financial District Opened – 1998 Decor, Vibe – Kokkari has beautiful rustic, earthy decor that has changed very little. A large rotisserie is the center piece of the first room, along with a medium sized bar area. The back dining room is more comfortable as it is partitioned away from people standing next to the bar. We came on a weekday night for dinner and found the place packed with well dressed, middle-aged, Financial District types. No hipsters here!

Why did we dine here? – Trestle is a small restaurant in San Francisco’s Jackson Square district. Their claim to fame is a three course prix-fixe menu for $35 per person, with an option to add an additional pasta course for $10. $60 for bottles of wine! The team behind this popular restaurant also runs Stones Throw on Russian Hill and Fat Angel. At this aggressive price, we had to see what all the fuss was all about. Insider Tip – Reserve early. Go early or late for less noise. Cuisine – New American Location – San Francisco’s Jackson Square district Opened – 2015 Service – Trestle was very good. The restaurant is tiny, so their are constant navigation issues. Servers knew their stuff and were friendly. Verdict – Trestle is a steal at $35 for 3 courses. The only downside is when you have folks with smaller appetites who cannot finish all the food and would have ordered less. The menu changes all the time and seems to focus on fresh ingredients and modern preparations of different dishes. They do not cut corners with portion size either. While we were not 110% amazed, there seems to be many restaurants […]
