Why did we dine here? – Liholiho Yacht Club is a Hawaiian influenced restaurant from Ravi Kapur, formerly of Prospect and Boulevard. He returned to Hawaii and found inspiration in the cuisine he grew up with. It is a very popular restaurant with hard to get online reservations, so book on Resy weeks in advance. You need to wait 30 minutes or more before it opens to grab one of the open butcher-block tables if you walk in. Last visit in summer 2025. They also run Good Good Culture Club Insider Tip – Get there early Cuisine – Hawaiian Fusion Location – San Francisco Lower Tender Nob Hill Opened – 2015 Food is innovative and fun, not to mention fantastic. Great place to go with larger parties, so you can share ohana style. This place is busy and loud, lots of energy here. One of the great reasons why San Francisco is still an exciting place to come for dinner. Service – Liholiho Yacht Club had better than expected service. Helpers were circling and the friendly waiter helped us navigate the menu. Water refills did lag after a while. Verdict – Liholiho Yacht Club […]

We ate at the Oahu location across from Disney’s Aulani Hotel in 2021 during the Pandemic. The tables were well separated and entire restaurant is open to the outside, making us more comfortable. Our last visit was at the Maui Wailea location in late 2021. Lots of outdoor tables, spaced out inside tables. Vaccine card requirement. The Maui restaurant is located on the second floor of a small shopping mall complex. Peter Merriman is connected to several successful restaurants on Maui including upscale Merriman’s. They focus on local and sustainable products. Check out our Maui Restaurant Guide Insider Tip – This restaurant is busy, so you need to make reservations. Happy hour 3-5:30 and 9-11pm. Great deals then. Cuisine – Pan Asian, America Location – Wailea, Maui and Oahu Opened – 2012 Service – Monkeypod Kitchen started out with some decent service from a waiter who helped us navigate the menu and get started. He disappeared for a long time and we ran into glitches at the end. […]

Why did we dine here? – We were staying at the Fairmont on Maui, so it was natural to eat at restaurant Ko. We had originally sought to eat elsewhere, but jet lag make it far easier to stay put. A beautiful room, tropical sea breeze flowing, a view open to the pool with live modern Jazz playing. Executive Chef Tylun Pang was Voted 2013 Maui Restaurant of the Year. Insider Tip – Happy Hour 3-5pm with drink and pupu specials is cheaper! Cuisine – Inspired by Hawaii’s sugarcane plantation era Location – Fairmont Hotel, Wailea, Maui Opened – 2013 Service – Ko had reasonable good service. A smart waitress who guided our ordering well and many assistants to take care of our needs. Verdict – We didn’t expect much other than expensive food, but Ko wowed us with top notch food at significant prices. No hesitation recommending this for foodies staying nearby, who can afford the high prices. Also nearby is Monkeypod Kitchen Ko Signature Dishes – Poke, Fresh Fish of the Day, Lamb Ko’s Menu Winemaker Pairings, a prix fixe three-course menu comprised of Executive Chef Tylun Pang’s favorite dishes, paired with three stand-out wines. The menu is […]

Why did we dine here? – The Plantation House is a fine dining restaurant next to a golf course on Maui in the posh Kapalua area, not far from the Ritz Carlton. Chef Jojo uses local food whenever possible and tries to serve modern interpretations of classic island inspired cuisine. He used to cook at Banyan Tree and Morimoto Waikiki. Insider Tip – Breakfast is far more economical than dinner Cuisine – Hawaiian Location – Kapalua, Maui Opened – 2009 Service – The Plantation House had very good service with a professional waiter. Things were a bit laid back, but he helped us with ordering and any requests quickly. We were a bit put off because we arrived early and still had to wait for our table, even though the restaurant was 50% full. Verdict – The Plantation House is a special occasion restaurant, it is expensive but you have a great view and very good food. The Mahi Mahi here was the best we had on the trip. If you’re in the area, give them a try for breakfast at least. Is this restaurant worth a 5 minute drive? Yes. 30 minute? Yes. 1 Hour? Maybe. The Plantation House […]
