We recently finished up our culinary tour of Germany in the Summer of 2012. It was interesting to see how authentic German food and restaurants in Munich compare to the ones we have in the San Francisco Bay Area. Below are several Munich restaurants we dined at. See our Tantris Review for a two Michelin Star Munich Restaurant. Wirtshaus In Der Au A loud, classic restaurant near our hotel with wooden tables and decor that included dungeon style lights. They do have an English menu. Hits: Bauernschmaus (€37.60 for 2 people) – Recommended by the waiters to most of the tourists like us. This is a massive combination plate with pig knuckle, roast pork, duck, sausages, several dumplings, two kinds of sauerkraut and a beer based sauce. This dish was large enough for four people. The sausages were some of the best we’ve had. The other items were okay, not foodie quality. We would recommend sticking to the sausages next time. Overall rating (Stars) – 2.5 Food Rating – 2.5 Service Rating – 2 Atmosphere Rating – 2.5 Value – 2 Guide: 0 = poor, 1 = Fair/Average, 2 = Good, 2.5 = Very Good, 3 = Excellent , 4 […]

This restaurant has two Michelin stars (the only one in Munich) and stands out from the crowd with its crazy decor. We wanted to eat here as a fine dining contrast to all the meaty and loud restaurants we ate at. Check out our other Munich restaurant reviews. The decor is modern and glitzy with lots of bold colors and cool silverware. Insider Tip – Have a drink and appetizer in the upstairs lounge. Cuisine – German Location – Munich Opened – 1971 Service – Tantris had excellent service. No worries with food recommendations, ample refills, and fresh napkins whenever we got up to hit the restroom. Verdict – Tantris is an excellent restaurant in Munich. The decor almost overshadows the food. We rate the food excellent but slightly below 2 Michelin Star restaurants we have been to elsewhere. Tantris Signature Dishes – Dove with marinated cabbage and black salsify. Tantris’s Menu includes several tasting menus as well as a la carte options. The menu changes from time to time.
