It is located away from downtown Truckee, in a strip mall. We’ve been to their sister French restaurant Tangerine Bistro (Which was okay) and decided to try this spot. The owner has worked for the Flour & Water restaurant group. We dine at Moody’s a lot and hit Red Truck for lunch. Insider Tip – Make reservations during busy periods. Always can order takeout Cuisine – Italian Location – Truckee, CA Opened – 2020 Service – Great Gold had very good and friendly service that helped us navigate the menu and handle any requests. Verdict – Great Gold is a solid bet for decent food in Truckee. Prices are comparable to those in San Francisco, not cheap. We dined at Rich Table the day before and spent the same amount, for better food. Hey, you are on vacation, so eat up! Service is solid, better than expected. Is this restaurant worth a 5 minute drive? Yes. 30 minute? Maybe. 1 Hour? Our last visit here was over 10 years ago, so it was time for a refresher. Reservations are not easy to come by at this small restaurant, just off University Avenue. As they put it: Named after the largest island in Greece, Evvia, serves food prepared using the freshest, season ingredients, combining traditional Hellenic flavors with a contemporary sensibility. Dishes are simple, yet flavorful, allowing the ingredients to take center stage. Verdict – Evvia and its sister restaurant Kokkari, are must visit spots for those who like Greek food and especially lamb. Is this restaurant worth a 5 minute drive? Yes. 30 minute? Yes. 1 Hour? Maybe. Evvia Signature Dishes – Lamb Chops, Octopus, Lamb Riblets Evvia’s Menu is pretty wide ranging with lots of cooking using their beautiful oven.
