Josephine Chez Dumonet is a popular old school Bistro in the 6th Arrondissement, St. Germain, not far from the Jardin du Luxembourg. It was open in 1898 and is run by 3rd generation Jean-Christian Dumonet. We came to this restaurant to feel what Paris felt like in the old days. They serve half portions so you can sample lots of cuisine. They are known for excellent boeuf bourguignon, steak tartare, and roasted saddle of lamb. Our first visit was in 2009 and we returned in 2024. Paris Trip 2024 Restaurant Reviews Decor, Vibe – Old world Paris with front bar area, banquettes, amber walls, classic lights, pantina tones, old posters. This place has not been updated in many years and shouldn’t be! Mostly Americans were dining. Folks were mostly in the 40-60 range. Tables are yours for the evening. Interesting, they do not answer the phone. We were late and couldn’t get a hold of anyone. Josephine Chez Dumonet Menu is short and concise. A section of cold starters and then meat entrees. Few options for vegetarians. They do have an English menu. Gone in 2024 was cassoulet, fish and some other dishes. Amuse Bouche Cold Gazpacho Josephine Food Picks: Massive […]

Brass-and-glass fixtures, wood beams, long leather booths, and leather padded chairs and loads of mirrors. No air conditioning. Lots of older locals, tourists, and some families. A huge piece of duck breast cooked to a perfect medium rare accented by a slightly orangy sauce. Poulet fermier roti – Plat Du Jour (19) Today’s special was a perfectly done Roast Chicken. An excellent price for a very big quarter of a chicken in a wine flavored brown sauce. It included a large portion of finely purreed mashed potatoes with lots of butter. A couple next to us ordered 2 of these. Cheap and wonderful.

Le Comptoir du Relais Saint Germain is a quaint Left Bank brasserie in the 6th that serves up classic French fare. It is connected to a 4 star hotel, The Relais Saint Germain and a couple blocks from the Jardin du Luxembourg. The owner, Yves Camdeborde, used to work at the famous Crillon restaurant. Lunch is bistro menu based, while dinner follows a more formal daily changing multi course prix fix menu. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table during lunch. Dinner reservations must be made well in advance. This place is in many tourist guides like the Fodor’s and was on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. Decor, Vibe – Le Comptoir du Relais is a typical french bistro with sidewalk seating, cramped, and restrained decor. Huge mirror inside with today’s specials written on it. Hectic pace, lots of people watching, and crowded. The place was full of locals, and some tourists when we visited for lunch. Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Full Menu Picture Set Picks: Melon au Jambon de ferme D’Eric Ospital (12€) – Prosciutto and Melon from Eric Ospital was a simple but refreshing dish for such a hot day.
