The Line Even EMT’s Eat Here Bakesale Betty is more of a bakery than a casual restaurant, but this place has some great food so we decided to try them. There is almost always a line out the door of the nameless corner spot, and sometimes around the block. The line moves fast though. Look for Betty in her blue wig, she is a Chez Panisse alum. This hard to park spot still attracts a ton of folks including us. They kindly hand out cookies when the line gets long. Our latest visit was in the Spring of 2026, and reaffirmed Bakesale Betty’s awesomeness. A counter outside the door takes order and items are brough out to you. Post Pandemic changes: No tables outside, cashier stand on the sidewalk, contactless payments. Still a long line! Their fried chicken sandwich has been licensed for sale in San Francisco’s Chase Center. It is not the same! Bakesale Betty has their legendary Fried chicken sandwich, Fried chicken salad. They have a daily changing variety of cookies, scones, pies, brownies. Bakesale Betty also serves Lemon ice, coffee and other drinks. Prices have remained steady for many years. Decor, Vibe -Bakesale […]

It has been hotly anticipated as there are no such restaurants in this area. We had to previously drive to SF or Palo Alto to get quality vegetarian food. We have dined here multiple times with the last at the end of 2025. In late 2025 we felt the restaurant slipped. The menu was more mainstream with faux burgers and more, the place was pretty empty on a Sunday night and service sucked. They added a bakery, Twelvemonth Bakehouse that is open Thursday – Saturday 8am – Noon. Lots of plant based items you do not see elsewhere! Be sure to check out our review of Encanto, Lisbon for the best vegetarian restaurant we’ve been to. Also Eleven Madison Park, New York for the best vegetarian restaurant in the USA. Insider Tip – Make reservations Cuisine – American Vegan Location – Downtown Burlingame Opened – 2023 The interior is tastefully redone from the previous brewery days and full of unique custom touches. Beautiful separate bar area. Large outdoor patio for when the weather gets better. The Twelvemonth menu is fairly concise, with several clearly market […]

Patisserie is a new bakery from Belinda Leong. She is a veteran of Gary Danko and Manresa. We couldn’t wait to give her place a try. Insider Tip – Closed on Monday. Special new items for Chinese New Year Cuisine – Bakery Location – Lower Pacific Heights, San Francisco Opened – 2013 Service – B. Patisserie’s Menu includes many delicious pastries, desserts, sandwiches, and other items B. Patisserie Bakery Picks: Kouign amann ($4.25) is her famous pastry. Flaky, buttery and crisp. Can you believe that this thing has no eggs? They make several different flavors that change with the seasons, though we still prefer the normal one. The chocolate is a bit too sweet. During Chinese New Years 2020 we tried the Mango Kouign amann and found it well done. Not too sweet. 10 hour Apple Tart is actually baked for 10 hours at a super low temperature. The apples are super soft, yet the crust is nice and firm. Delicious.

Cheeseboard Pizza Collective is a worker owned collective of 12 people who served a different pizza each day. It is located in North Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto. They also serve a single type of salad. Cash or check only. There can be a line around the block at peak times. It is located next door to the Cheese Board Collective, which sells excellent cheese, bread, cookies, muffins, etc. Our last visit was at the end of 2010. Decor, Vibe – Cheeseboard has a clean modern place with live music much of the time. Some seating inside and outside. Lots of typical Berkeley-ites including students. Cheeseboard Bakery Rye Bread, Asiago Breadsticks, Raisin Bun Cheesboard Menu Pictures Picks: Potato Pizza Red Bell Pepper, Onions, Kalamata Olive pizza Red Bell Pepper, Onions, Kalamata Olive, Mozzarella Cheese, Feta Cheese, Garlic Olive Oil, Italian Parsley Pizza ($2.50 slice, $20 entire pie) – This was the pizza of the day. It had crunchy sourdough like crust over half of a slice, while the rest was chewy and not soggy or burnt. Cheese was high quality and very good. This is one heavy pizza even though it had no meat and was not thick crust. Very Good stuff. […]

Woodside Bakery & Cafe is a combination Bakery and cafe in upscale Woodside, right next door to Buck’s. The bakery has been here since the 1980’s. Our last visit was in October 2011. Decor, Vibe – Bakery area up front, big wood fired pizza oven in the kitchen. Outdoor patio in the back. Locals, tourists and bikers passing through, larger parties were eating lunch. Woodside Bakery and Cafe Menu Pictures (Click to zoom into any picture) Picks: Spinach-Mushroom Soup ($7 Bowl) was solid albeit a bit on the rich side. Roasted Lamb Panini with grilled red onions, roasted peppers, rosemary aïoli ($12) was a nice grilled sandwich but could have used more of the lamb. Big side salad. OK: Pizza Margherita ($12) with vine ripe tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil (tomato sauce optional) was pretty average with little flavor to it. Cheese was pretty forgettable. Almond Crusted Rainbow Trout ($15) stir fried Asian vermicelli salad with orange ponzu sauce looked like they chopped half for another person’s dish. It was decent but crusted heavily. Pans: Chop Chop Salad ($12) romaine, artichoke hearts, olives, gorgonzola, smoked bacon, red onion, hard cooked egg was a miss mash of ingredients […]
