Why did we dine here? – So is a sister restaurant to San Tung and San Tung #2, run by James Chu. It sued to be located at Irving at 24th avenue. We were stuck in traffic, so it way more fun stopping to eat here! We have dined here in the past and love the fact that we can get the legendary wingz across from the SOMA Trader Joe’s complex, without schlepping out to the Sunset district.
Insider Tip – Interior is pretty spartan
Cuisine – Chinese
Location – San Francisco SOMA District
Opened – 2010
Service – So had fair service, the servers are nice but you still need to hunt them down.
Verdict – So serves up the legendary wing along with some other comfort foods. A nice change of pace in the SOMA district.
Is this restaurant worth a 5 minute drive? Yes. 30 minute? Maybe. 1 Hour? No.
So Signature Dishes – Wings!
So’s Menu is way different than San Tung
So Food Picks:
Wings chicken wings deep fried in a light batter tossed in roasted red peppers, garlic and ginger sauce ($8) are spicier than the ones at San Tung. Good stuff still.
Cherry Pork chunks of lean pork or chicken deep fried in batter and tossed with our special garlic and ginger infused tomato sauce ($9) was more gingery compared to the San Tung Version. Good, but we prefer the other one.
Dried Sauteed String Beans ($9) fresh string beans flash-fried and tossed in a garlicky sauce with Chinese pickle were very similar to San Tung’s.
Beef sliced fresh beef and mixed vegetables Soup Noodles ($7.50) was decent. The noodles in particular were springy and the broth solid.
I Don’t Know diced fried chicken tossed in a spicy garlic sauce with cabbage, onions, carrots, zucchini, broccoli and jalapenos. ($9.50) What a name. A nice mishmash of ingredients all stir fried together.
