Why did we dine here? – Hopscotch Oakland is an upscale restaurant in Oakland’s Uptown area. We were attending a concert at the Fox Theater and ate here beforehand. This restaurant is located 2 blocks from the Fox.
Insider Tip – Come hungry
Cuisine – American
Location – Oakland, Uptown
Opened – 2014
Service – Hopscotch had solid service with someone circulating often. Better service than expected.
Verdict – Hopscotch impressed us with solid food with some Asian twists. Oakland has come a long way in the culinary arena. Not far away is Duende and Pican.
Is this restaurant worth a 5 minute drive? Yes. 30 minute? Yes. 1 Hour? Maybe.
Hopscotch Signature Dishes – Fried Chicken
Hopscotch’s Menu is very concise. There were 7 bites and sides, 6 entrees, and 5 plates and bowls.
Hopscotch, Oakland Food Picks:
Cocktails Mojito ($10), Corpse Reviver2 ($11) are good and strong. They know how to make drinks here. Good thing the Fox Theater was only a 2 block walk.
Greens & Shrooms ($10) broccolini, king trumpet, shimeji, mung bean sprouts is a vegetarians dreams. Lots of fresh mushrooms cooked just right.
Smoked Eggplant Risotto ($25) with manila clams – pea tendrils, tomato, green garlic persillade. This sounds very geared towards vegetarians. (No clams) Yet when we received it, the dish impressed us with its delicate flavors.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($23) marble potato salad is a signature dish and a must get. Very crisp chicken, spiced just right, with a juicy and perfectly done interior.
Donuts ‘n’ Cream ($9) butterscotch custard is great, how could it not be. Freshly fried donuts and some standout custard.
OK: (Order if you like this dish)
Yonsei Oyster ($5 ea) sea urchin, salmon rose, citrus soy sounded good but it was too much of a good thing.
Pans: (We would not reorder these dishes)
None
