Why did we dine here? – Campo Pizzeria is a new restaurant in downtown Palo Alto featuring Chef Sean O’Brien (Myth, Zinnia).
Insider Tip – Order the Mozzarella
Cuisine – Italian
Location – Downtown Palo Alto
Opened – 2012
Service – Campo Pizzeria has reasonable service that was still getting in sync.
Verdict – Campo Pizzeria serves up decent Italian food in a nice atmosphere. The pizza is solid but not exceptional. The one pasta we ordered stood out.
Campo Pizzeria Signature Dishes – Pizza
Campo Pizzeria’s Menu includes 9 different pizzas, 4 mozzarella’s, and 4 pastas. Couple options for vegetarians.
Campo Pizzeria Food Picks:
Margherita, diNapoli tomato sauce, fior di latte, evoo, basil ($13) was a bit pale, but possessed a crisp crust and good cheese.
House-made Pork Fennel Sausage, tomato, smoked mozzarella, pepperonata, scallions ($16) had a slightly soggy center. A bit of zest from the peppers and solid sausage.
Warm House-Stretched Mozzarella with persimmons, fig balsamic, flat bread ($10) was smooth and nicely done. The vinegar added a good contrast.
Kale Salad, roasted squash, almonds, pecorino, mustard dressing ($10) is a modern adult salad with lots of dressing.
Fusili Casareccia, tomato and sausage ragu, with kale, Pecorino, and toasted breadcrumbs ($16) was clearly homemade, VERY al dente, and worthwile.
Grilled Creekstone Skirt Steak, roasted cipollini onions, crushed potatoes, salsa verde ($24) had a reasonably sized portion of tender meat with a tangy sauce.
