Vik’s Chaat Corner is a busy Indian restaurant in the more industrial area of Berkeley. Chaat means “to lick”. Traditionally this is known as road side snacks that made people lick every last morsel.
They have have a regular menu, and add different specials on weekdays and weekends.
Sweets Case
Decor, Vibe - Warehouse with minimal decor and spartan tables. Their grocery store is next door. Lots of workers on lunch break were eating when we went there.

Picks:
Chicken Curry Special ($6.25) was a boneless chicken curry that was very spicy but tasty. It came with long grain Basmati rice. Some of the items were pretty greasy especially the Dal (Lentils). The Raita (Spiced / Flavored yogurt) helped reduce the spiciness. The small helping of Achaar (Spicy Pickle) packed a sensory punch.
Masala Dosa ($6.50) is a Crispy savory crepe made of finely ground rice and dai with South Indian style spiced potatoes. It was served with coconut chutney and sambar (Light and spicy Lentils)
The crepe was hot an crispy when we got it. The potatoes inside were flavorful but not spicy. A good vegetarian dish. The Sambar was pretty greasy.

Clementine is a neighborhood French restaurant in the inner Richmond district of San Francisco. It was purchased by Restaurant Chapeau’s owner in early 2008.
We have had great meals at Chapeau, so it was time to try his new venture. They have several different prix fixe tasting menus. Early bird special is the way to maximize value.
Decor, Vibe - Small space with bar area on one side. Stylish restrained decor. Locals in their 40’s and 50’s and probably a lot of Chapeau fans were dining. No high energy scene here.

Picks:
Foie Gras was small but very good. Melts in your mouth with the included toast.
Scallops were very good especially with the excellent Lobster risotto.
Sea Bass was a big portion of tender, well cooked fish. Nice sauce.
Filet Mignon was a medium sized hunk of tender beef. It came with decadant bone marrow, which is probably 75% fat, but delicious nonetheless.
Duck was a huge course. Well cooked to medium rare.
Creme Brulee was very smooth and creamy.
Chocolate Cake took 10 extra minutes but was well worth the wait. Very good delicate dessert.
Chocolate Pot de creme was very chocolaty and had coffee flavor. A nice complimentary dessert.
OK:
Sorbet had 3 different flavors. An average dessert.
Crab Cake was a large portion but a little too overcooked.
Pans:
None
Clementine was a very good experience but was a notch below what we have expereinced at Chapeau. The service slowed down after a while. The Chef/Owner likes to walk around and shoot the bull with customers.
French food style was similar to Chapeau’s. We would have no problem recommending this place. Quality and value is high at this neighborhood eatery.

nectar wine lounge is a stylish wine lounge with locations in Burlingame and San Francisco’s Marina district. They serve many different types of wine including many tastes and several flights. They also serve a full menu of food with a focus on local, sustainable, organic product. They have daily specials. We visited the one in Burlingame which is located just off the main Burlingame avenue shopping mecca.
Decor, Vibe - Sophisticated dark interior with lots of wood and accent lighting. Bar and couch lounge area up front. Mostly well dressed folks in their 30’s and 40’s were present.

Lounge Nibbles
Picks:
Monkfish ($14) wrapped around a bone, served with wild rice with toasted almonds sounded weird but was delicious and cooked very well. A small bone was in the middle of the juicy fish.
Nice tastes of Storrs Chardonney ($6) and Gruet Sparkling wine ($5).
They were kind enough to serve us a delicious amuse bouche and lobster bisque, probably because they saw us taking pictures.
OK:
Pizza ($15) hand-tossed dough topped with sun-dried tomatoes, rosemary cured ham, and olives had good crust on the edge, but was a little too soft otherwise. The ingredients on top were top notch and delicious.
Scallops
Pans:
None
nectar wine lounge had average service. It seemed like the friendly server had too many tables to service us regularly. The food was surprising decent for a place that focuses on drinking wine.
This is a good place to visit if you are into wine and is a nice stylish place to stay for dinner.
