Hokkaido Seafood Buffet Review, San Mateo

Posted by Foodnut.com, June 27th, 2012

Hokkaido Seafood Buffet San Mateo exterior

Hokkaido Seafood Buffet is a popular buffet in San Mateo’s Bridgepoint shopping center (near Foster City), next door to the ice rink. They charge $19.99 – $20.99 for dinner, depending on the day. Lunch ranges from $11.99 to $16.99. An extra $1.75 buys you unlimited soda. There was a $5 Mon – Thur discount coupon in some Ranch 99 fliers that we used in 2009. We haven’t seen any new coupons lately though. Our last visit was at the end of January 2012. Read the rest of this entry »

Why did we dine here? – Pizzeria Mozza is a popular Southern California Italian restaurant with Chef Nancy Silverton in partnership with Mario Batali. We had it on our short list for our recent trip. Mozza2go is their take out location, right next door to Osteria Mozza.
Yes we dined at Osteria Mozza and came here for meal #2. Someone has to do this!

Plumed Horse Restaurant Review, Saratoga

Posted by Foodnut.com, June 20th, 2012

Plumed Horse Saratoga Exterior Decor

Why did we dine here? – Plumed Horse is a long standing (1952) restaurant located in Saratoga, not far from the Montalvo winery. This location used to be a stable, hence the name. Peter Armellino (Aqua) is the chef. They have earned one Michelin star and have been on our radar for many years. We finally had an excuse to visit this fine restaurant. This restaurant was remodeled recently, giving us a good excuse to pay a visit. Their decor is definitely top-notch with a beautiful transparent 2000 bottle, three-story wine cellar and cool chefs table / room.

Marlowe San Francisco exterior decor

Marlowe is a market driven neighbourhood bistro near SF’s ATT park, just across the street from the Caltrain station. Chef du Cuisine: Jennifer Puccio was formerly of Cortez. The focus here is on American comfort food. We decided to try this place because Michael Bauer raved about its burger. Our last visit was in November 2012. Gooyi Gooyi Restaurant Review, Santa Clara

Posted by Foodnut.com, June 13th, 2012

Gooyi Gooyi Santa Clara Exterior Decor

Why did we dine here? – Gooyi Gooyi is an authentic Korean restaurant in Santa Clara’s Koreatown. We’ve found some of the best Korean joints down here plus our neighbor recommends this restaurant, so we had to give it a try.
It is located next to an Adult store, so don’t stress.. Enter and you’ll find tables with burners and the typical massive hoods. Mostly Koreans were eating, a good sign. Prices at Gooyi Gooyi are definitely on the high side, but worth it if you love Korean food.

Quince Restaurant Review, San Francisco

Posted by Foodnut.com, June 11th, 2012

One of the top restaurants in SF.. Quince is a high end restaurant in San Francisco’s Jackson Square area, near the Financial District run by chef-owner Michael Tusk. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, has cooked extensively in Europe, and used to work at Stars, Oliveto, and Chez Panisse.  They serve California cuisine with northern Italian influences as well as Alice Waters inspired freshness. This restaurant focuses on local, organic, seasonal ingredients and moved to the space vacated by Myth, after a six year stint at their cramped location on Pacific Heights. Parking is slightly easier at the new location. Quince received one Michelin star in 2012.

Quince SF has a more casual restaurant next door called Cotogna. Read the rest of this entry »

Soowon Galbi LA Exterior decor

Why did we dine here? – Soowon Galbi is a popular Korean restaurant in LA and one of the highest rated on Yelp at 4.5 stars. It is located right in the heart of Korea town, in a nondescript strip mall. LA is renown for some of the best Korean food in the US, so we had to give this restaurant a visit. We had previously dined at Genwa Korean in Los Angeles and wanted to see how this place compared.
