Koi Palace is a popular Cantonese Chinese restaurant in Daly City. The Peninsula is ground zero for some of the best Chinese food in the SF Bay area. It has been around since 1997 and specializes in wide selection of Dim Sum for lunch and special dishes for dinner. They also have locations in Dublin and at Thunder Valley Casino. We came for dinner and have previously reviewed their dim sum lunch. Our return trip was in late 2009 and early 2010.

Sun’s Chinese Cuisine is a Taiwanese Chinese restaurant in downtown San Mateo that opened in late 2009. It is located a stones throw from the movie cineplex. The owner used to work at nearby restaurant Everyday Beijing. We’ve passed by many times, tried it early on for lunch, and decided it was time to give it a second chance. South Sea Seafood Village Dinner Restaurant Review, Millbrae

South Sea Seafood Village took the place of Fook Yuen Seafood Restaurant in Millbrae in February 2010. Fook Yuen was a long standing Chinese restaurant in Millbrae that acquired a good reputation over the years. South Sea Seafood has a location in San Francisco’s Sunset district. Millbrae is home to many fine Cantonese Chinese restaurant including Asian Pearl Peninsula and Zen Peninsula. With such high powered competition we wondered how they would position themselves. Sumika is a small low key Japanese restaurant in downtown Los Altos, hidden away on a sidestreet. You really need to seek out this two year old restaurant. The focus on home style comfort foods with rice bowls during lunch and Kushiyaki or Charcoal Yakitori grill for dinner. They use organic chicken and other ingredients. Read the rest of this entry »
Gator’s Back Porch BBQ Restaurant Review, San Mateo

Gator’s Back Porch BBQ is a spin off of Dollie Marie’s restaurant and former Gator’s Neo Soul restaurant. Dollie Marie’s was their attempt at fine dining which is morphing into this BBQ. Downtown San Mateo has a very high concentration of Japanese restaurants. Almost one on every block.This one is one of the best and most economical. No surprise, there is a line out front most of the time. We’ve tried pretty much all the nearby Japanese restaurants. Sushi Sam and Kisaku are also good but more expensive. China Village is a Chinese restaurant featured on the KQED public television program Check Please back in 2008. They specialize in Szechuan (Sichuan) Chinese food but serve other styles of Chinese Food. China Village is in the 2010 Michelin Guide as a recommended restaurant. We were nearby and finally had an excuse to visit. It is a generic decor Asian restaurant in the Solano avenue business district of sleepy Albany, just north of Berkeley.
