Orenchi Restaurant Review, Santa Clara

Orenchi Santa Clara Exterior Decor

Why did we dine here? – Orenchi is a very popular Japanese Noodle House that has been on our hit list for a while. They are a sister restuarant to Sumika in Los Gatos. The broth that they use is cooked for a minimum of 18 hours. It is made with organic chicken, Canadian black pork, and filtered water. There is a line much of the time. We had to wait approximately 45 minutes for a Saturday night dinner. They close up when they run out of broth, which happened about 8:30pm on this particular evening.

Insider Tip – Go early to avoid the crowds

Cuisine – Japanese Ramen
Location – Santa Clara
Opened – 2010

Service – Orenchi had reasonable service for a Japanese noodle house. There were servers roaming around, but we did have to flag them down to get things done.
Verdict – Orenchi serves up solid Japanese food, no surprise with the waits. Their ramen is very good but not as good as places like Santa Ramen in San Mateo or Ramen Santouka in San Jose in our opinion. Ramen is very personal though.

Orenchi Signature Dishes – Ramen

Orenchi’s Menu includes several different types of Ramen along with some appetizers and salads.

Orenchi Food Picks:

Orenchi Santa Clara Shoyu Ramen

Shoyu Ramen, Soy sauce base ($8.80) Toppings: pork bamboo shoot, wakame seaweed, Tokyo leak, fish cake, spinach, nori seaweed – this Ramen featured a robustly flavored broth but the noodles were not as good as Santa Ramen’s.

Orenchi Santa Clara Ore Miso base Ramen

Ore no Miso Miso base Ramen ($12) Blend of three kinds of miso, crab. Topping: pork, sweet corn, sprouts, cabbage, Macadamia nuts, bamboo shoot, leek – excellent pork and soup base made for a solid bowl of noodles. Ramen is very personal, and we still prefer Santa Ramen.

Orenchi Santa Clara Cha shu Gohan

Cha-shu (roasted pork) Gohan ($3) special priced was hard to pass up at this price. Tender cubed chunks of pork over rice with a bit of sauce thrown in.

Agedashi Tofu (Deep fried Tofu) ($5.20) looked great and is recommended for those who like Tofu.

Orenchi Santa Clara Eggplant

Cold Nasu (Deep Fried Chilled Eggplants) ($6.30) presented itself as an unappealing dark black mass, but tasted far better than it looked.

OK: (Order if you like this dish)

Orenchi Santa Clara Agedashi Tofu

Kakuni ($7.80) was very meaty, similar to a long boiled meat within a soup. We would pass on this next time.

Pans: (We would not reorder these dishes)
