Genwa Korean BBQ
5115 Wilshire Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90036
Why did we dine here? – Genwa Korean BBQ is a popular Korean restaurant in LA’s Mid-Wilshire District and one of the highest rated on Yelp at 4.5 stars. It is located in a new housing complex, not far from Koreatown. LA renown for some of the best Korean food in the US, so we had to give this restaurant a visit. They were remodeling next door when we dined in 2012.
Insider Tip – Make reservations
Cuisine – Korean
Location – Los Angeles
Opened – 2009
Service – Genwa had decent service, probably far better than the Korean restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Verdict – Genwa Korean BBQ serves up the goods, and in a beautiful room. one of the finest Korean we’ve had. Hit it if you are into Korean and in LA. The best Korean we have found in our area includes: Tobang in Santa Clara, Pyung Chang in Oakland, and Gooyi Gooyi in San Jose.
Go for lunch if you are on a budget. Portions are huge.
Genwa Signature Dishes – Prime Galbi, Bulgogi, Bibim-bap
Genwa Food Picks:
Ridiculous number of Banchan items – 24 plus rice paper and daikon wrap. Steamed egg, which you can refill twice. Excellent soup and salad.
Prime Galbi ($31.95) We let them cook it in the kitchen. Prime short ribs marinated in a house special sauce. Expensive but the best version we’ve had to day. Tender, flavorful, plentiful.. A must.
Sizzling Bibimbap ($13.95 lunch) was huge and mixed table side. Rice with beef, assorted veggies, egg, and chili paste. Hate to see the dinner size! Stellar ingredients and crisp stone pot rice.
Mul neng myun ($11.95 lunch) was also a healthy portion of cold buckwheat noodles in a beef broth with beef, egg, pear, and vegetables.
OK: (Order if you like this dish)
Pans: (We would not reorder these dishes)
