Alhana Foods is a combination grocery store – Mediterranean deli in San Mateo. They focus on falafel’s, schawerma, kabobs and the like.
Decor, Vibe – Standard grocery store with the food counter and a couple tables.
Menu
Menu has a wide variety of à la carte items along with individual plates.
Picks:
Shawerma Gyro ($7.99) was an extra large wrapped filled with flavorful lamb, onions in a savory gravy. A little different than others we have in the area.
Falafel deluxe ($6.75) was a large wrap full of ingredients including average falafel patties, and lots of chopped up vegetables and potatoes.
OK:
Mezza plate ($10.95) falafel, assorted pickles, hummus, dolmas, feta cheese, labneh, olives, and tabouli was average just the falafel’s standing out. The pita bread is pretty marginal.
Combo plate ($14.95) of lamb and shrimp kebabs, Rice with almonds. The shrimp was the better of the two, the lamb was a bit overdone and plain.
Beef Kebab was okay but fairly big. The beef was of average quality and handsome reasonable flavor.
Pans:
None
Alhana Foods and friendly service helping to explain why this place is so highly rated on Yelp (+1 star for friendly folks). The food was average at best. Nearby places that are superior include Tannourine. Taste In in Burlingame is similar to this place but has better food quality.
