Sumika is a small low key Japanese restaurant in downtown Los Altos, hidden away on a sidestreet. You really need to seek out this two year old restaurant. The focus on home style comfort foods with rice bowls during lunch and Kushiyaki or Charcoal Yakitori grill for dinner. They use organic chicken and other ingredients.
Decor, Vibe – Casual low key Asian decor with kitchen front counter seating, several booths, sake bottles lining some walls. Mostly middle aged Asian customers were dining during our lunch time visit.

Sumika Menu focuses on Donburi rice bowls, Tofu, or Udon for lunch. Dinner includes several Charcoal grilled skewers as well as hot pot, tapas, and appetizers. They are known for their katsu fried chicken.
Picks:
Salad, Pickles
Oyako-Don ($10) Organic Chicken cooked in a special sauce covered by small grain white rice, soft gooy eggs over rice comes with a decent miso soup, a small green salad with a soy dressing and some oshinko pickles. Reasonable size for lunch and decent quality.
Teriyaki-Don ($10) Organic Chicken teriyaki over scrambled Egg and rice includes the same miso soup and salad. Lots of chicken breast meat, some of which still had skin. Slightly strong teriyaki sauce.
OK:
None
Pans:
None
Sumika had solid service from an accomodating waiter. Prices are reasonable for this class of informal Japanese restaurant making it easy to recommend for a quick bite to eat in the Los Altos area. Nothing fancy, just some solidly cooked Japanese food. Don’t look for Sushi, rolls, or Sashimi here. They have a good assortment of sakes.
